found this on CL and looked at it on saturday. was up in the air about buying. after thinking about the past 2 days i called the owner, made a time to meet and made the deal, and gave him a deposit on it (i got a written reciept we both signed). it needs the typical floor, rocker and other work to get the body back in shape. not sure about the drivetrain yet what im going to do there, but it would awhile till then anyways i hope to be able to pick it up this coming weekend but depends on the weather and the Vw project i sold sitting in my garage any way a few pics of the ride, a 47 plymouth coupe
Great buy! Get it home, clean it up and start getting her back on the road..........then rinse and repeat. =OP
Here's an earlier thread on the same car. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=420099&highlight=47+plymouth+worth+1000
i understand it mite be everyones cup of tea but i like a challenge, i made my own floors for a few trucks and cars before so its not to big of a deal for me and i didnt pay the original asking price got it alot cheaper. and believe me not alot of anything in my neck of the woods they doesnt need floor and rocker work
I always have liked these coupes but felt the rear wheel wells should be rounded more. Always wondered how hard it would be to weld in some 40 Ford wheel arches?? The roof to trunk line is very pleasing on the eyes and your car has a lot of potential. Nice score !!! Looking forward to watching your build.
everyone in my area here has the typical ford or chevy. i dare to be different and in the past i had proven my buds wrong when they told me it could be done. i read thu the whole thread that henry29 posted. 1st off the car has only been sitting where it at for about 5 years. today before i got there to deal with the owner he had pumped up the tires and there holding fine, he had also put oil in the sparkplug holes a few times thu out the years and turned the engine, being the last time was about 1.5 years ago. it is missing 1 or 2 pieces or the side trim, others are inside the car.
**** the naysayers and the lemmings! I say build it and build it with PRIDE! I've seen a Texan rebuild a 58 Chevy that makes the ***anic look solid. A friend with a Rambler wagon that makes me want to cry in a corner and hold myself............I dig the old Mopars and as soon as I can find pics of Wards old Dodge, I'll post them for inspiration!
I don't see a custom but I can easily see a early hemi hot rod either g***er style or lowered with Halibrands on all four corners. be sure to keep us up to date on the build with pictures. Frank
The look great painted a bright color an lowered with wide whites. You don't really have or want to do a lot to them except fix them up and drive them. I'd vote for a 360 and matching trans and then drive the wheels off it.
i been thinking more and more on this car and if i can get a good deal on a 360 its what i will go with. but what years are the best for the 360. also im in between going auto or 4spd
Damn, my 360 with matching torqueflight came in my donor 79 cordoba that I got for $20.... and it was running and driving!!!!!
Damn it, before I saw this post I'd forgotten about the 41 Plymouth coupe that's a few miles from me. Car is complete , driven to where it has sat for probably 30 years and left. Now I gotta start thinking about that project again and put the 36 on the back burner. Great find anyway and have fun building the 47
i cant wait to get it home. want to get cleaned out, square the body up and get most of the old floors out and go from there
thanx S.O i like the stock looking one just needs to be lowered some tho. im hoping the weather holds out here for the weekend so i can get home, im just itchin to get started
Congrats on the acquisition! If you where thinking about it that much, you had to buy it even if you resell it just so you don't keep asking yourself what if. tnrotter
Go for it man have a good time and don't spend too much time second guessing yourself. These are cool and even though it might be a little thin in spots (ok- so some of the spots are not there anymore) there is lots to work with. Mine started out needing floors and the lower edge and I tried to look at it license to do stuff I had never done before. Can't wait to see how it cleans when you get it home. Post the pics. Rodshop
Like everyone said.. buy it..it can always be resold if needed! My buddy built one for a customer from M*** and it came out *****in..very cool cars and u dont see em all over. Ill try to find some pics.. keep us posted
It's a LITTLE rough, but still a very good start with A LOT of potential. Really dig the old Mopars, as you can tell by my Plymouth. And now you can't say shoulda, coulda, woulda. Good luck with it & keep the pics coming.
its 7am, buddy called and will be here in about 1/2 hour with the rollback. he has an errand to run with the truck 1st thing and then we will be heading down for the 47
i got the ***le transfered and the coupe home im now the proud of the 47 , will get pics later today and more tomorowneed to get cleaned out and get starting on alittle jacking of the body to get the doors to open and close abit better and some bracing along the way so i can start onthe rockers and floor. will most likely pull the front clip off and rear fenders tho 1st
here is a few more pics, yes its ugly but i still like it. want to get the front clip off tomorrow, and get the m/t unbolted to pull out. will either order or have a p***enger side rocker panel made up so i can keep the body squared til im ready for more bracing before i pull the body off
