hey fellas, need some opinions on this car. Owner is asking 3K probably take a little less. It has been sitting for a few years, a relative p***ed away. It has been in the family since new. He said when he tried to jump it, it almost fired but not quite. I am ***UMING it needs brakes redone, carbs cleaned and some new gas and it would be driving. It has all new interior, carpet, headliner, seats. Problem is, I would have to sell my 49 plymouth 4 door quick! This car is also about 5hrs from me so I would have to haul it home. BUT, this is THE car I have been looking for and wanting. Is this a no brainer whether I sell the Plymouth first? Just looking for opinions. here are a few pics. josh
"I am ***UMING it needs brakes redone, carbs cleaned and some new gas and it would be driving." Don't be discouraged if it needs much more, but if it is THE car, buy it. WTH it's only money.
Buy it. Without a question it's much more desireable than a 4 door mopar. They made hot rods out of 49 Fords. They let grandad drive his 49 Plymouth 4 door around.
thanks for the replies, obviously I know it is more desirable than any 4 door, but how quick do you guys think I can move the plymouth? The wifey wont let me have both!! The entire interior has been redone on my Plymouth, it has new(er) paint and tires, etc. It is my daily driver. here she is, I would need to get at least $4800 out of her. josh
take $$ out of savings, or where you can get it from and buy it. Not starting could be that the fiber type of timing gear is shot. Ya never know what will sell and for how much. Put your really nice looking Plymouth on the normal sites like here, craigslist and in any other freebie ad stuff that you come up with. Put For Sale signs in car. I have sold cars in a matter of hours and up to several months. Sometimes the first offer is the best you will get. Get names and numbers from people with real interest and cash.
I have a '49 Ford, so I'm biased, but only you know your finances and time. Your 4dr is a daily driver, this is a project, but ultimately a more desirable car. I wouldn't ***ume it would be as reliable until you go through everything. If it's been sitting a long time, it's going to need lots of little things which take time to do. I start at one bumper and to through everything until I hit the other one. When was the motor rebuilt? Gas tanks and brake cylinders are easy to redo compared to a tired, smoking flathead with no compression.
Wish we could find them that nice back on the east coast and for that price too ! Buy it......somehow.
I think we've all had to rob Peter to pay Paul to get into our "dream" cars, but if it's halfway feasible than do whatever you can to make it happen, and if it all just crashes to the ground and doesn't work out than it wasn't meant to be and you still have a good looking car to jump into everyday. The timing never seems to be on your side when the good ones come along
FINALLY ****in talked the wifey into the old, "can't p*** it up, we can sell the plymouth" so I called the guy up. He promised it to a guy 5 minutes ago. bummer, said that if it falls through he will call me. I doubt it falls through. Oh well, lesson learned. Next time I will make the deal and THEN pay the consequences with the wife josh
