I have around 500 car mags I want to donate to the troops overseas but have no idea how to go about it.I also want them to get there and not disappear on route lol any idea's Thanks guys . PS they are very heavy.
Maybe do a search for USO. They might be able to give you some information. Thats a good cause. I got a few I'll donate as well.
How do i get them there?? How do i go about this!!! I have a HUGE "lowrider" collection and some random Hot Rod and various!!! I need to make room and i would love to p*** them along to our troops!!!
Get in contact with your local VFW, I did it in November and gave them about 300 to send to them. They have the info to get it to the people who are interested in them. Jon
THANKS for thinking of the troops! They need all the support that we can give them (and more)! I try to help out with a group called "The Pin Up Angels" who do retro pin-up art and then use the proceeds from donations to send "care packages" to deployed troops. Go to www.thepinupangels.com and ask them how to get the mags to them. There is an "East Coast" and a "West Coast" chapter of the Angels, but my stupid company's IT security won't let me get to any of their websites from here or else I'd give you more specific details. You can e-mail one of the EAST coast girls at erinmoser2@hotmail.com if your website search is unsuccessful. Her pin up name is "Miss Lilly Day", and I know that she'd appreciate anything that you'd like to donate. Even if the donations of the magazines doesn't work, they're always looking for all kinds of small trinkets and "stuff from home" to add to the care packages. I'll also send her a link to this thread and see if she can make any other recommendations! Thanks again!
Also, if you have a base near by, contact their Family Support Group. They'll probably pack them up for you and ship them out. Also you can contact Help the Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan Care Package Project from Marine Parents .com, Inc. SupportOurTroops.org - Home MILITARY MISSIONS, INC. - Beyond the Yellow Ribbon I would just make sure that what ever you intend to send conforms to General Order 1 http://www.jrtc-polk.army.mil/115th_BDE/generalorder1.pdf
i can ask my dad, he does the shipping for the local national guard where he works. but he's out of town right now.
Well now you are right up my ally lol. I am currently deployed overseas. And am collecting mags for the soldiers here in Kosovo. I can also see if I can get you more addresses. So the mags have not gotten to be a cluster I have people sending 1 care package about every 3-4 weeks. 2 if you want.
Hey Ian the Post Office carries boxes for troops for free. The ones I got already had about 20-30 mags in them.
The Post Office has a "Flat Rate" program that no matter the weight (up to 70 LBS) will be at a certain price. An APO or FPO address should be the same as any other U.S. postage. I have some also, so if I can get an address to send them to I will send them. Hats off to all our GI's and Vets.....Thanks!
OK all. I am trying to get some addy's from Iraq and Afgahnistan too. My address is SPC Bender, Terry J. TF Defender, C co. 2nd Plt. KFOR 12 APO, AE 09340
I have received about 40 mags already. I tink when I get home I will start a mags for soldiers Care packages for all our car guys out there. Right now I pretty much am running it like a Library here in Kosovo and then I will donate them to the education library.
I have been sending them with the flat rate boxes for while now to Afganistan-cost $10-12 each time--there is a soldier here on the site-that I send them to-always put in a couple of Hot Rod type ball caps too His name is BUFF here on the HAMB
Now tat is sweet. i have I believe Rodder's Journal sending some too. Nobody really knws about us here in Kosovo but we could use them here too.
This would be the greatest thing ever! Sitting here in Afghanistan reading the R&Cs that I brought over and waiting for subscriptions have held me over but once in a while I get one that has been thumbed through a little much. Try getting onto a Post website and contact the Public Affairs Office (PAO). They may give you contact info for the FRG or tell you how to get the ball rolling.
So true. Almost the end here in Kosovo and so slim pickin's I will try to get some addys from you guys to send this stuff. PM me with your APO.
PM HotRodCh***is or search for "Christmas HAMB". Kevin organizes a care package drive for the troops every Christmas. They send 100s of packages of car magazines, food, toiletries, etc. I'm pretty sure they get help with shipping from someone.
Going to Fort Sam tomorrow to get the skinny thanks guys for all the info and lets keep this ball rollin I will post what I find out.
Yes the books are very heavy... I'm currently in Afghanistan and I have had some guys from this site send me some mags. Let me tell you that is very good for morale. When I received some on Christmas Day I was really happy because I was homesick. Before I left home I packed up some plastic tubs and had them sent with our equipment. I p***ed them out to guys here and that gave them something to do. I'm doing the same when my wife sends me books. I could always use more especially Street Rodder old ones as I have a subscription to the new ones. Guys do what you can and from a Soldier thank you all for your support.
Thanks Rebelrat. Right on !! I'm in on this deal......Please post shipping and/or who can ***ist with this !
You can go to anysoldier.com and get address's too. A flat rate box cost about $11.00 to send to the troops, well worth it. Remember there are women over there too.
