In the March 1969 Rod and Custom, Spence Murray wrote an article ***led "36's Anonymous". The article talks about 3 1936 Fords coming into L.A. by ship from Hawaii, to add to the collection of "Mr. X". It seems "Mr. X" was raised in the Pacific northwest, operated several Ford dealerships in the Los Angeles area, and had a collection of '36 Ford roadsters and Phaetons. On staff at R & C at the time were Tom Medley, Bud Bryan, and John Christy. Anyone know who Mr. X was, and what ever became of his collection of '36's?
The only Mr. X I know of was of THE AWA (American Wrestling ***ociation), he wore a Mexican wrestling mask & was from about the same era of The Crusher. I know, I'm really helpful. Sincerely, Cheatercarl
I thought it was the mysterious person that steals all the pictures that folks here posts. He replaces them with his mark. The infamous white box with a red X!!
Aside from StevieG, the only other intelligent post is the first one from a guy named Stu Pad***o (stu-pid-***-hole)!!! Freakin' awesome!!!
This guy? Maybe he had some dealerships in LA too? <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/cVmNzoy6HKI&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/cVmNzoy6HKI&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Kenny Immus (sp?) was Mr.X . I owned the modified '36 Roadster in the article about 1996 , it's still in the area with the guy I sold it to........Z
On a semi-seriouse note: some of those would be, Mallon motors in tacoma, Bill Gill Lincoln-Mercury, Fugate Ford in Enumclaw. I remember Mallon had some older stuff he kept in his truck lot service department. I beleive Bill Gill used to have a 36 pheaton he would park on the curb dureing sales "events".
Mr.x or mr."anonymous" or Mr. ken immus is alive and well!!He loves 36 fords, even his address number on his house is 1936!(another reason for the name is (one of the differences between a 35 and 36 ford body is that the side of the cowl has a x bead on it for added strength on the 36). He is still building 36 fords well into his late 70's up in washington. I know this because i am good friends with his grand son Derek immus (were in the same club)and i had the honor of meeting ken this last summer. He is a very interesting guy, he told me some old stories of his circle track days, of him towing his 26 roadster across country with a 36 coupe after he got out of the navy in ww2.He also worked for hall tops for a brief period and carson tops for a brief period. He owned a few dealer ships in sunnyvale,ca in the 50's and 60's and still ownes the land$$$.He currently still has 3 36 fords. A cabriolet, a pheaton, and a cherry "project" cabriolet club coupe that he is saving for me when i can come up with the 15k . He recently Gave his grandson a original 36 2 door humpback that we are gonna be starting on pretty soon, with a pre-war custom influence. If you got any more qustions STU just pm me.
After all these years it's kinda funny to see this 'Mr. X' stuff popping up again. My highschool buddies at the time gave me no end of grief over it, but it's true-my dad, Ken Imus, is/was the famous "Mr. X" of Rod & Custom. The Hawaiian phaetons were shipped to Oakland, then transported down to his dealership on the El Camino in Sunnyvale- Holiday Ford (Sunnyvale Ford these days). Then indivudally hauled to our house in nearby Los Altos. The dark (washington blue) roadster was my driver- bought a totaled '67 Mustang with 327 miles on it for the drivetrain and then some (I remember Spence Murray telling us about his Rambler powered '36- had to wonder about that guy). Sold that in late '70 to a fellow in Portland and lost track of it- sounds like it may still be around. Over time the rest of the pictured cars were sold off- not sure of specifics, but they were gone by the time Ken moved from the Los Altos house in '89. As "chief" posted, Ken is alive and well still has a couple of '36s in the garage. And-Derek- We're waitin' for you to get going on that humpback.
