Theres a documentary on DirectTV (LinkTV) that shows the Cuban life. It goes into detail about Cars and their ownership. Theres even a segment where the crafty guys pour their own windsheilds from scrap glass. I have nothing but respect for how these People survive during such hardships. At the rate things are going,,America could end up like that,,so theres alot to learn from them actually. I think theres a Vid about JFK/Cuba
    (Youtube:"JFK2").

If you own a car, you're in the taxi business. It's unusual to see a car driving down the road unless it is full. It's the law. You must pick up anybody that indicates they want a ride, if you have room in your car.

Criticizing Cuban cars as being "non-traditional". Now I've seen everything.

Consider those Cuban dudes that rigged up a propeller on a 48-54 Chev truck, attached oil drums for pontoons and attempted to "drive" to Miami in their truck.
They almost made land when the Coast Guard picked them up and then blew their "boat" out of the water?
    Kinda crafty.

I'm sure it's a nightmare to live in but it makes for crazy eyecandy up here. On the plus side they never have to worry about being broadsided by some asshat on a cell phone driving a Hummer.

I saw that too..necessity is the mother of invention..I have a lot of respect for someone who can still roll a classic no matter what..considering what they got to work with

This last picture is of my friend Jose's 55 Chevy. Jose treated our family to a great day in the Hills of Matanzas at a old Coffee Plantation Historical Park. My wife and sons went Horse back riding while Jose and I sat and listened to some great Cuban Music and drank a few Bucanero's (my favourite Cuban Beer) while our lunch was cooking. Jose had reserved a nice part of the part and we had lunch with his Uncle, his wife and a very good friend of Jose's who works for Fidel. Boy the stories that I got to hear that day. For lunch we has a Roasted Pig with Black Bean Rice, Yuka and Cuccumber and Tomato Salad. followed by a nice glass of Havana Club Barrel proof rum and a Cohiba Siglo 4. It was just a fantastic day

That green truck is parked on SW 8th street and 38th avenue here in Miami as of last Monday when I last drove by it. At the old Anthony Abraham Chevy dealership, now part of the Marroone dealerships. Not sure if it's the one or a clone. I'll swing by, take some pics and ask the folks about it in the next few days.

The metalman at the shop I hang out at has only been here three years ( from Cuba ), where he was a metal man on cars as well. Amazing what they used to use to weld, and how they welded Aluminum with torches, etc.. He tells me that the classic cars down there are getting more and more expensive. He sold his 49 ford 4 door for 6K the day before he left, and not to any family member, just some other Cuban guy who wanted it. So it's not all that cheap!. The folks down there know what they have, there are parts shipped from here to there by personal couriers everyday. Where there is a will there is a way. For instance, My mother chats and IM's with her two childhood friends everyday online... The world info stream is leaking in to Cuba at record pace, hopefully it's not too long before we're vacationing there again.
