Heres some pics of a Ford we are chopping. There were alot of ideas tossed around when we started. Hardtop? Vicky back window? Vent windows yes/ no? We got a complete Vicky top and procedded to cut the rear window out of it after laying it in it just didn't look right so the decision was made to do a traditional chop. We took out 3" in the front and 4 out back Hope you like the pics We also made some floors for it first Engine got pulled to reseal, Noticed the cam was wearing went to swap out the cam Valve guides were total garbage pulled heads and the cyl walls had a pretty good ring ridge so now the engine is out for a rebuild with some goodies, New rockers and lower fenders to go on after then do something with the suspension. Owner is tossed up between some dropped uprights and coils / blocks or full airride?
My thoughts too, good see someone "shaping" a panel instead of just smashing it into place until it's "close enough" and then goobering it back together. I also seen a tig torch, very nice. Your should be able to planish that roof back into shape and metal finish it! Good job, I like it!
It took a long time. I just have a cheapo Harbor freight wheel (JUNK) looking to invest in a quality wheel I'm sure it would make life easier. Pics are deciving if I took the clamps off it had some gaps.
Awesome man!!! That's what this site is about...... I studied pics too before chopping the 49' ..... A LOT!!! Cant wait to see more man!!
Personally I use a planishing hammer for shaping, but thats because I dont have a wheel. Plansihing hammer works great and its pretty fast. Just really really noisy.
Nice work on your shoebox The chop is diffrent from mine but i belve have it more complicate than the most http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=410348 /Stefan
When you get one try and find a watervliet or one you can remove from the stand. That way you can make it mobile to planish roof skins after their welded, or 1/4 panels etc... Here is a watervliet I just picked up last week.
