So i am being a cheapo on this one but the headers i recently bought only come with a black e-coat type finish, and i didn't want to spend the long dollar on having them coated. So i am thinking of using the POR15 Manifold Cast Grey on 'em. Any one try this on tube headers? i know the stuff is kick a$$ on manifolds? Or is there a better paint to use? all the spray bombs seem to flake off even if you bake em...

Anything you put on them will either flake off or burn off. I've used BBQ paint before on them, it seems to last a little longer. The cast por 15 stuff is designed for what it says on the lable...for cast! I would have kept saving a couple more $ and opt to get coated headers...my 2 cents.

well there not painted yet, but the they are hedman and they didn't even offer them in coated. I believe there is a place in detroit that does the coatings though. Thanks for the tip though, never thought of grill paint before!

I've had decent luck with DEI high-temp exhaust paint so far.

you need to get them to bare metal first. i sand blast them to bare metal then paint with high temp paint with ceramic. i get it from auto zone. i think its from dupli color. they hold up really well with no flaking. if you paint over the coating thats on there, it will flake taking your paint with it. i did this to the headers in my falcon 4 years ago and they are still in great condition.

Over the years I have tried many things but had the best results with a ceramic grey brush-on header paiint I got from Speedway. The surface has to be really clean like sandblast or just really clean. It stayed stuck and looked fine.

  9. Believe it or not.... your fuel mixture will play a big part in how long that paint will last or just "burn off"
Get that carb set just right.

  10. I'll always use black paint for stoves/ furnaces.

Sandblast - BBQ paint - 24hr drytime - run engine for about 30 seconds a couple of times, let cool completely (engine included). Has lasted me a long time.

Sandblast then and use the Eastwood high-temp paint for exhaust manifolds. I have had very good results with this stuff

Dupli-Color header paint was the best results on by old TBucket - and I tried several - scuff the metal real good - then sprayed them!
