My '27 Dodge Brothers has a 360 Mopar. a Mopar goes in a Mopar. Chrysler never made Nailhead

  2. First choice, early Hemi w/727 or 518

If you want lots of power cheap, go big Mopar - 500 stroker in a 400 block sounds about right, or for that matter, a nicely built 383, 400 or 440 will snap your head back in that little car

360 would be no slouch either or an early Poly or Poly A motor

So many choices - No Chevys!

After reading your responses it is quite clear that Mopar folks are purists. While Ford can be a mutt (in the best terms) with mixed components, it is not the case with other major brands.

With that said, I am in a similar boat. However, I am looking for a smaller displacement 325. I was headed down the 241/270 due to dimensions, but the 325 seems to be a middleground for me. I plan to run full hood/fenders.

So my vote has to go with HEMI as well.

    Good luck!

    kookee,
I think you should be able to fit a 331/354 under the full hood!? I think you just need to place MM low and back. The heads are wide, But from what I think I have seen get it really near the firewall! Might just cut into the firewall (a-little)! follow the factory firewall couture line (thats what I'm planning) and it will almost look stock! (I could be wrong) I think it will work!

I have to go along with the Mopar-in-Mopar folks. The nailhead is a cool engine, but a Plymouth deserves a Hemi, IMHO.

Print a copy of the ID codes (Scooter's Hemi Tech) and take it with you just to sure of what you are looking at....

Well I looked at some Hemi's yesterday. Found a non running 392 (CE57)! The owner states it is a good motor and if i want it he will pull the head and oil pan so we can take a look to make sure its good! I got him down to 1800.00!

I also, found a 354 (unknown numbers yet) unknown condition (yet). I think i can get for 500.00 or less!

    So whats do ya think!

392 OR 354? Is the 392 worth the extra cash?

    ...random thoughts...
***uming that the 354 turns out to be a 354, what are you really going to get for the additional $1300 ? Ninety percent of the folks looking will not know the diff, so is it a big deal to you ? Do you need the big crank because you have a real heavy car? Some folks might suggest putting a 392 crank in the 354 block but after buying a crank and doing all of the needed machine work you will be at the same money.
The cost to rebuild is virtually the same for either, ***uming that the same amount of work is needed and ***uming that you are not going to get cheap half-way through the job...

I would stay away from all of the fancy alum eye candy and put the $1300 into parts: forged pistons, cam, electronic ign, modified intake, etc. A hot 354 is a powerful engine, more so than the displacement would suggest.

    I echo what 73RR says
392 is a mighty fine engine yet there is nothing to be sneezed at with a 354. The additional $1300 can go towards a well machined engine and keep the over cost down - its bad enough having to pay extra on a engine for the "hemi" name so unless the budget is wide open go for the 354 and burn *** once its done, save some bucks and enjoy your ride

I hear ya! I'm going to try to get the 331! If it falls through I still have the 392 in the wings for now! I think i will have to move on one or the other soon as they wont be available for ever!! :)

    hey BlackLab/Pancho

Any way to let us view all pages of a thread at once, instead of having to go page by page?

Its not as big a deal here as the response speed switching pages is so fast, but i always like to view a thread in one click.

Thanks and I love the site
