Oh, it's after a lake has a good ****ging by some expensive yacht..........and feels like a good smoke out of the ol pipe.
Like..Jerry Seinfeld what is the deal with lake pipes? "What IS the deal with Lake pipes??!! I mean..c'mon!!
Sweet, sweet noise and give you that unmistakable stink of a hot rodder that doesn't wash out for days.
The first ones were vertical, much like the exhaust stacks on trucks. They were used on amphibious military vehicles between the world wars but never made it into combat as the tip poking above the "lake" surface was a giveaway as to the vehicle's location. But they sure looked good. So as hot rodders will do, they adopted them as their own. They started chroming them in the '40s and by the '50s they had gone mostly horizontal, missing the point altogether of their original intent. Much like many traditions of hot rodding, the original meaning is all but lost except in the memories of a few ol'timers. Hope this helps. Pete
They're not Lakes and they're not pipes - they're tubes for god's sake...... Can no one else see this????

That about hits the nail on the head.Hooked up or just for show,IMHO they are one of of the definative accessories from the golden era of Kustoms.
I think the answer to that question is a firm "NO". People use them on Kustoms to make the car look a little lower, or so I always ***umed.
Wheres the cheapest place to buy a set of lakes, who has the best deal on them???? Gotta have some, for my coupe..
