I know a lot of people are unhappy with the NSRA over their 30 year rule. A small group from the midwest is starting a new pre49 only organization. If your interested please follow the link: http://www.americanstreetrodassociation.com/Home_Page.html
for more info. The web site is not much to look at, but the purpose is to build support for the new organization. They aren't asking for any money or dues at this time just trying to develop a contact list of potential members. When the by-laws are complete and a dues structure is in place the association will follow up with the people who have submitted a contact from.

    Check it out...if your interested.

    Thanks

So there are two sites saying they are the American Street Rodder Association. Will the real ASRA please stand up?

Did that back in 1972. Line chasing in KC. Didn,t work then, Doubt if it will work now. But I guess you need a place for your gold chainer 32 snobs.

Why do you think it won't work? Line chasing 72 was an event, not an organization. I'm pretty sure not every pre 49 vechicle is a 32! BTW what is a gold chainer? Someone who enjoys pre 49 cars? Someone who is, maybe a little grayer, a little wiser? Someone who can affort to have a car built, most build their own by the way, or enjoys a little more comfort? Someone who has lived through the muscle car years and has come out with an appreciation of the older body styles(pre49)? Someone who can teach, through experience, or mentor new people wanting to enjoy the motor sports hobby? What exactly is a Gold Chainer???

I'm done with nsra......I really don't need a organization to join to have a good time. Most of my friends agree driving is more fun than showing....

I can go to any number of events that are open to all 30 years and older vehicles, and I generally like all kinds of cars and trucks. I liked the NSRA because it was for pre-49 vehicles, it was something a little different. With their new rule it will be like all the other events. I'm in favor of a pre-49 only event.

Really need to get both groups to agree and form ONE site. Running two sites is going to be very confusing.

  24. Well, just to stir the pot...MY idea of a "Gold Chainer" is some guy that has NO clue about how to build his own car, but because they're cool, lays open his check book and buys one....therefore making HIM cool. Wouldn't have a clue about how anything works on it, but because he's read or heard others, he's an expert. Not necessarily an older guy who can now afford to buy what he once had to beg, borrow, steal, or fabricate himself. And I wouldn't be caught DEAD wearing a gold chain...:D

As for the NSRA, it was Chartered for pre '49 cars...that's the way it should stay. I have absolutely NO problems with Clubs for other year cars. Changing the direction of the Club negates why it was Chartered. If they're losing members because the pre '49 guy are dropping then so be it. Change the Charter and rename the Club the "National Car Club", then you can let ANYone in...but don't try to palm it off as the NSRA...

I don't see pre-49 rule being any worse then anti-billit rule. Trad guys seem to be the real snobs. They were always welcome at major car events. No restrictions. I guess every minority has to have someone to hate so they feel better about themselves. I'm not a gold chainer but there is some small amount of billit on my car. I like the new guys in the sport because they brought back chopping and channeling instead of painting weird crap on a car and calling it custom. Both links worked for me but I got two different home pages?? Yes I am dissatisfied with the NSRA. Have been since they decided to make Louisville the only NSRA Nationals event. Regional Nats don't cut it for vendor and car attendance. Plus the NSRA just kind of gave up on the west coast.

Hey everyone, lets try not to turn this into an argument. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and my opinion is that this is an organization to promote and enjoy pre-49 vehicles. My dad and I are actually building our first post 48 vehicle right now (56 buick) but Im still going to support a pre49 organization because I like them so much even though I won't have one for a while.

For the sake of keeping this ON TOPIC I would like to make the point that if this organization or one like it, does anything at all, it will be just one more venue for us to " spread the gospel of traditional Hot Rods and Kustoms"

Sorry to hear that, I started building in 1955 and have been building since, I happen to like gold chains and wear my ELKS tooth that I have had since 1989. Don't thing that it make me any less of a car person for doing it. Just because you want to make your self a un cool, I guess don't know what you are trying to say. . 02 pluse some

Mostly I think it's a bad idea ( a NEW pre-'49 org) because it is so damn closed minded and intolerant. I will soon be 66 and own mostly 'pre '49 vehicles, but I have a few '50's and one 63 1/2 Falcon Sprint. So, I guess I think I have the long term association with early cars to be qualified to have an opinion.

First of all, in spite of what many seem to think, NSRA is a business. As a business, the owners are entitled to do what they think is in their interests. Have any of you naysayers really LOOKED at the average attendee at the NAT's? I go every year and can't help but see the obviously aging memebership. In 2009 I literally had to watch where I was walking for fear of triping over a "mobility cart". Now, I don't object to a 'cart', may need one myself one of these days. The point is, without new blood, the organization will wither and decline.

Obviously, Goodguys has permitted later vehicles, up to '72 I believe, and I am a member and have attended several of their functions too. I see no appreciable difference in the events, the pleasure of looking at lots of neat cars, except their is a wider variety to scope out.

Just because a car 30 years old CAN attend, doesn't mean it WILL attend and absolutely NOTHING prohibits the pre-49 vehicles that have attended. So, if you and your pre-'49 aren't there, it's you who chose not to be a part of the gathering.

Like religion and politics (and politics is what this IS) there is no convincing a true believer, but maybe, just maybe, somebody out there has a little room for some fresh perspective.
