The main issue with your question is NOT which is more desirable ( 32 3W, roadsters or Willys coupes ) but buying and selling highly desirable cars for their REAL VALUE. :)

Sure everyone may want a 3W, a roadster or a Willys coupe ... but finding someone with the CA$H ... to buy that highly desired vehicle at it's highly valued price ... is going to be difficult.

I have a 32 Henry Ford full fendered 3W ( number #1 on the list you posted ) and finding someone with the CA$H to buy it at it's current value is not easy ( but it is NOT for sale anyway :D ).

Most any established rodder in his mid life adult span should be able to buy a 5 grand project. When you elevate the price to 10 grand, about half of the folks who can afford to buy drops out. Same thing for 15 grand, about half of the 10 grand buyers have to fold. By the time you get to the 30/40/50 grand range that the vehicles BRING ( $$$ ) ... very few buyers remain. Then factor in ... they very well may have a very different list.

  2. My observation was that at the BJ auction, no matter how stylish it is to hate it, pickups were getting more respect than usual. They can still be bought very reasonable and the market is growing.

well.......I guess I only confused things further........

I had to sell my '35 - QUICK

and I gotta a buyer quick............

but if I would have had a 1962 Pontiac Ventura it would have taken longer to sell most likely......unless I gave it away........

So the question my buddy has - if he wants to get a project car - what should he start out with - something that would be able to be moved quickly if he has to move out of country or his wife finds out!
    ha

and I am not trying to say that he is going to find a '32 roadster for $10K-
none of us are that dumb - but what is a good ride that the others in the community would be into that would be easy to move assuming he needed to get $$$ back out of it quickly.

The Model A suggestion was helpful - and another buddy of mine just found one that was running and complete for under $4K

I am in Iowa so the "deals" are still here and there from time to time

You hit it right on the button 32's values have held up throught the test of time. And by the way you can buy a 32 roadster (Henry body only) for under 10k if you buy it from a fellow hamber as done this past summer.

    Wouldn't a 39 or 40 sell better than a 35 or 36 5-window? I would think at least 40's would be more desirable.

  7. I would've thought that 32-36 roadsters would have been in that list.

1933 deluxe Phaeton, should be on the list as well. Certainly a '36 Phaeton. But in reality a '32 Roadster is probably the most and holding investment. I never think of cars as investments anyways. Drive 'em because you love them, seems to bring more smiles than a stack of dough anyways.

Trying to put an "Easiest to Sell cars" list in some sort of logical order is retarded.

Doesn't "ease" depend entirely on price?

How many of the exact same cheeseburgers could you sell at $5 versus $2.50?

You're entitled to your own opinion. I'd like any of those on the list and more. Although, I really like my roadster!

I'd take a '57 Chevy Bel Air (2 door hardtop or convert) over either of those listed above...all day long...

I guess that one didn't make your list either...

well - it may be "retarded" to try to sort this out - but some people are NEW to this...........believe it or not.........
and I am trying to help my buddy out..........
but he's a little freaked about taking the plunge into vintage car ownership.

So he is asking my advice on what kind of cars would be "easy to move" if he needed to get out of them quickly.

Thanks for people that are actually helping.......all others - can simply ignore the thread.

some people sure do know how to beat a dead horse.... why do threads like this always turn into "wish lists" and "this car is so much cooler or beter than that car"???
buy and build what you like..... if your making investments (cars) for the sole purpose of making money, your in the wrong place...... just my 2 cents.....

Coolstuff, I think I get what you're saying....

My best advice to your buddy is to buy a car they make lots of reproduction parts for. If entire bodies are available, even better, you know that it's a really hot body style then!

I'm not saying buy something that needs lots of parts, but if vendors are offering that much support for the car you know it's gotta be pretty popular and in demand.

Next thing, two doors are always better than four doors. Always. Someone will argue with me, but when it comes time to sell, you'll be glad you bought a two door. There are some exceptions, but as a rule of thumb skip I'd the more-doors.

    My two cents!!

    Passenger cars:
Any early Ford open car, especially the 32-36 ones.
Any early Ford 3W Coupe, 32-36.
    Ford Deluxe Coupes, 39-40.
    55-57 Chevrolets, especially 57.
    49-51 Mercury, especially 51.
Ford 60s Convertibles, any model, especially 427 powered.
Chevrolet 60s Convertibles, any model, especially 409-427 powerd.

    Pickups:
    Any early Ford Roadster Pickup.
    32-34 Closed cab Pickups.
    40-41 Ford Pickups.
    56 Ford Pickup.
    55-57 Chevrolet Pickups.

Few of the above list will put you into early retirement unless you happen to have a dozen or two examples in premiuim condition and sell them one at a time fed into the market over months or even years and then invest the money in the market.

Hey CoolStuff, don't give up yet. Everybody has an opinion, and these guys like to rant & rave, whether they are relevant to your question or not. The best investment has to be a '32 Ford Rdstr or 3W. But unless you have a rich buddy that wants your car when your through with it, and will step up & pay what it's worth when you need it, you will have to market it to the right (rich) crowd & wait for a buyer. The other option is to buy a less desirable car if you happen to stubble upon a great deal. Then you can always pass on the good deal when you have to sell it. In the end this is a hobby that most of us love & a few are able to make a living at it. Buy the car that you like & if you have to sell it for a loss, count the lost money as entertainment. It's better than playing video poker & drinking beer. my .o2
