Hi I’m going to rebuild my 39 top loader trans (later synchro), which has 29 teeth. The cluster is worn on the first gear, so I will have to replace it. At this point I was thinking about changing to 28 teeth. Which parts apart from the cluster I must change for the 28 teeth conversion? I’m going to use a street hopped up 8ba and 46 banjo. With this driveline, is it worth to spend money changing to 28 teeth or it will be almost the same? Thanks in advance
Hey whats up Jesse. I just rebuilt mine and I have the same setup as you. I just bought my gears from the guy on ebay in Ohio, It was like $150 for the cluster, and $100 for first gear, plus the washers and bearings gaskets etc. I spent like $300 total..
Ollin! Great to see you here man. Thanks for the info. I already have all the gaskets and bearings and little parts. You made the 29 teeth to 28 teeth conversion? Before buying the new cluster, I wanted to know if it is worth to change it, or if the 29 teeth cluster is good enough. And in case of doing the conversion, which parts exactly I would need to change. Anyone knows about it?
