Has anyone ever used killer chrome spray paint before? Just found some on ebay and was wondering how good it really looks. Ive never heard of it before. Its a 3 stage system that looks easy to do. Just wondering if it was anything like Cosmic chrome that looks really good but is very expensive.
Nobody here has used it? Ive done alittle searching around and it looks decent. Not sure if its realy worth $150 bucks though. I was looking for a cheap fix for my grill on my 52 chevy. Cant afford to get it rechromed and i thought i found a site where they sold reproduction grills but its been lost. Mine has a dent in the corner and some tiny rust holes in a few spots. Nothing that cant be fixed but expensive to have repaired and chromed.
150 for a decent grill? I cant even find a grill period. Well, i did find a complete car sitting in town at a closed up garage that needed restored but never could find out who owned it. Now its gone.
How about you set aside those $150 and start saving a little here and there and in no time you should have the money to have replated.
friend of mine painted his 55 shoebox bumpers rims and grill with it he said it looked great but when I seen it looked like silver spray paint to me , Oh and don't clear it , it will turn grey
When somebody comes out with chrome in a can that really works we"ll all be in line for it,but don"t give 150 dollars ,when the dollar store sells it for $1.00 and calls it chrome paint to!
This stuff is better then the chrome in a can you get off the shelf. I watched a video of it on youtube. Im not sold on it. Im just looking for budget ideas to get my car moving in the right direction. Im flat *** broke right now. My finances have takin a nose dive this month. Long story. I'll just say my electric bill was 1024 dollars last month due to the housing inspector not doing his job before i bought my home.
****in really???? im sorry! i dont wanna be a hard***, but the fact that this **** comes up alot and nothing good comes of it makes me know that theres no such thing as kick*** chrome spray paint! IT IS ****IN SPRAY PAINT FOR ****SAKES!
Technology does change you know. Someday there might actually be some real good chrome coming out of a can. Cosmic chrome looks real good and is sprayed. All they got to do is figure out how to put it in a can. Making it user friendly is another story. Seriously. Never hurts to try something new. Have you heard of this stuff or know if it works? I was just asking about it.
imma stick with.....ITS ****ING SPRAY PAINT!!!! really! ? theres no bonus points for this round, but if you can tell me theres a fizz bomb that rocks, then my friend, you live on the moon! im just as broke as the next guy, but if i want some chrome, well, imma save up and have it done! PERIOD!
I'm with Brad Chevy, stash the 150 plus shipping it would take for that and add a six pack's worth of change to the stash a week and it won't take long before you can have it done right or find a nice one. I suppose someone will be selling patina in a can on Ebay next to go along with the chrome in a can.
I would like to see some of the powdercoat imitation chrome, though. A picture of an intake manifold looked real good, but then pictures don't always tell the truth...
I looked into it for a while because I saw those YouTube vids too. I was going to try it on a rad. shell just to see how it turned out but I read a few places that it isn't that much better than some of the can chrome you can buy other places (spray paint quality stuff). Seems like model people are the big users of that kind of stuff and most of them didn't think it was worth the price difference between killer and some of the other cheaper fake chromes. Another big deal breaker some people complained about is that the nozzle wasn't special like the ad claimed for the rattle can stuff, just a regular rattle can nozzle that didn't do a very good job. If you have money to burn go for it...but all of us already know it won't actually look the same as the real deal (maybe half way chrome like if you do damn good surface prep, but not 100%). EDIT: found a link to a rodder that tried it out http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/alsa-killer-chrome-product-review-146018.html
Even if it did look decent, it will chip and scratch like paint. Won't last, can't polish it. A ****ty chrome job will look better than a great spray paint "chrome" job. Maybe it should be called Khrome, for all the Kustom cars out there. Save your money, there will be plenty of things in life that will disappoint you for free, why pay for that? ^
Don't take this the wrong way, but I think your priorities are a little off right now. You claim to be "flat *** broke", and having a $1K+ electric bill, but are asking about some $150 rattle can paint that will probably look like **** in the long run anyway ? Like stated above, why not save that money for any unforseen obstacles that might pop up between now and when you can find a nice grill, or finances are a little more stable ? Just my $.02. Take it for what it's worth......which is not much. -Aaron
PRICELESS!!! I had to post on this because everyone knows the gold paint is the best, its the cheap ***ess who use silver or CHROME paint... PUN INTENDED
Krylon chrome paint in a can $4.95 save up and find a replacement grill or rechrome it. Trust me you will kick yourself for blowing $150 on chrome paint. Especially in the front of the car where all the rock chips are going to hit it. It will look like **** after a year.
I tried it and believe me it looked great ..... until I applied the clear. It killed the chrome and made it look like silver paint. I have ordered some more because I had to do lots of bondo work on the grille and bumpers, and no way could they be plated. Two things: one is a can of the chrome does not go very far, but you put it on really light so that helps. second, regular Dupla Color high gloss engine enamal seems to work for the base coat just fine.
Hi, I have seen the Spectra/Cosmi Chrome at some car shows. Its more reflective than typical spray paint chrome but has a orange peel appearance everytime I saw it. Plus as already mentioned not the durabilty of the real chrome when it comes to abrasion resistance. I mean think about it. When you are driving at 55mph+ and some sand gets kicked up you are basically sandblasting the finish. Chrome is very hard and resists the scratching much better than any paint will. Powder coat is a very durable coat but never have I seen anything from powder coating that is a high gloss in comparing to chrome. I would have to agree with all the posts stating to avoid purchasing this stuff. Another point to make is that the spray on chrome will only give the above results to someone who is skilled in the painting trade. I worked in chrome plating for a few years and with the times changing over to plastic this method was looked into and I myself researched it until it was unanimous that this method would not provide the finish customers had come to expect. so far i have never seen spray chrome that made me think it looked anything like real chrome.it always looks tacky to me.
If I was "flat *** broke", the last thing in the world I'd spend $150 on would be "paint on" chrome! Fix what ya can on the grill, yourself, and look around for a reasonable chrome shop while your saving up to do it right.
