any body have any info or history on one of these things? i picked one up at the turlock swapmeet today for a hundred bucks, i thought it was cool(no pun intended). the only thing i can find on it was someone selling one just like it on the samba (vw version of the hamb) and he wanted $350 for it. so i think i got a good deal:confused:, like a said i thought it ws cool. plans are clean it up and put it in the ol ladys stock 63 galaxie. and the one i got is two tone blue just like the galaxie, so it should match pretty good.

They are highly sought after by the the VW pre 67 Bus crowd. Its the period correct Type 2 Bus accessory to have. It installs on the floor, vents direct the air. You fill it up with ice and plug it in to lighter or or hard wire it. Very cool. Pun intended.

Good buy. I don't know much about them other then when I was a kid a relative visited our place one summer and had one of these coolers. When she left, she filled it up with ice and water. Said that it worked well. This would have been back in the mid 70's. I have had my eye out for one but haven't ran across one yet. Gives me a reason to go to swap meets. :)

If you're in a dry climate they can work pretty well, but in humid areas they don't do much - I have a similar model (picked it up at a garage sale, still in the original box :) ) and in humid Minnesota summer weather it mainly made it even more humid inside the car.
