Goin' to CA to buy a hotrod

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Christian, Dec 7, 2004.

  1. There's this local guy who wants to buy a hotrod, I've been helping him calling and contacting people out of European mags. (he doesn't speak English, doesn't have a 'puter etc.)
Anyway, only dissapointments so far. So with the $ exchange rate being in our advantage for once I'm lookin' into buying him a hotrod in CA.
He's looking for a trad, steel hotrod up to '34, roadster or coupe that drives (as in drives, has a ***le, is roadworthy, and needs no work but doesn't have to be perfect finish-wise)in the 10-13 K region.
So, you know of one, anywhere, let me know, it'd save me the trip to CA.
That doesn't work, where do I find one apart from Ebay? For instance if I got to Pomona 1 day, how many hotrods of above description should be there? Where else would be good places to look for one. Also how realistic is that price?
    Any help appreciated.

I'm guessing you might see 25 to 50 at pomona, just depends on the day. Could be more or less.--TV [IMG]

hi wondering can you buy a steel 34 or per 34 rod for that kind of money i will take one too

  4. I dunno Christian. The last several times Ive gone to Pomona there werent too many that even smelled hotrod. Pre-'35 there might be a couple 'cobbled together for fast sell' types, but nothing I spend any time looking at. There are hotrods there, but not for sale. Or overpriced streetrods. I think the best deal would be wait til June and come for the LACabriolet Show.
And the budget might be a little low...

  5. I based my ***umption that that kinda money would buy a rod on the "roach rod didn't sell" thread, one of the rare threads where they put prices to cars it seems. Loads of replies of cars on that thread that would have fit in our price range, the Ebay reserve on that gold modified by Pete from Boston was $8500 [IMG]
That's the sort of thing we're looking for, and that's "only" $8500! Keep in mind I said pre-35, that includes everything from 23 coupes with roofs cut of to 32 3-window coupes ( [IMG] )

Pomona was mildly rained out on Sun, but if I had known I would have checked.

  8. Actually I've already had some offers emailed to me, seems that kinda money buys us just what we're looking for.

  9. Good luck Christian, I saw a cool Olds powerd A RPU on Ebay the other day for around 7K, so neat cars are out there.

  10. Hi Christian, Sent you a PM.

  11. "Savage" here on the HAMB probably still has his coupe for sale. He had in Oct. when I talked to him. it was on Egay but didn't sell.

My buddy Ryan from Whittier told me he wanted to sell his Hemi powered RPU... Don't know a price though.. I could ask.

    Pomona ****s for hot rods.
