Projects '40 Ford Convertible, Hotrod or Custom?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by roadstar, Jan 30, 2010.

  1. I am considering the purchase of a 40 convert. The project was heading to streetrod land but I hope to save it.

I have wanted a 40 ragtop for a long time but have always liked them either way, rod or a custom, in fact a chopped carson top 40 convert is a super traditional car in most anybodys book.

So lets see some pics of 40's done either way and I can get some ideas.

    Thanks

    Rudy,
If I ever own one it will be a tradition hot rod. That's the route i'd take if I were you.

  8. Wow some great shots, like I said there have been some awesome 40's done over the years and lots of them customs.

I guess I should dust off the single bar flipper caps I have been saving:D

And I do have a pretty cool hotrod roadster already, guess I could have a rod and a custom, Hmmm Rod and Custom, Rod and Custom, has quite a ring to it doesn't it:D

Hot rod fourty ford converts look like the car out of 'grease' to me.for some reason I dont think they work as a hotrod.

    another custom vote here.

I agree, look at the Alaya custom shop folder in Rik's site, the John Geraghty 40 convertible...in my opinion, one of the best 40 convert customs ever.

If you chop it try to use the original folding mechanism,a convertible that you cant drop the top is useless to me. I know the carson top is removable but if I had one I would take it off and get far from home and get caught in the rain.

Man Rudy, a 40 convert would be SWEET!

  25. Well just looked at the car, if it is ment to be it will be mine. Still have to sell one to get one but like I said if this is ment to happen it will.

I do have interest in the roadster project and will miss what I have spent years collecting for but the trade off will be worth it to me and Cindy, she already has the interior planned out and is ready to sew:D

I will post some pics of the 40 convert I took today as soon as I download them from the camera.

  26. Well....I'm sorta partial to 40's. First - make it drive, second - drive it, third - by then the car will tell ya what it is. You couldn't go wrong doing to it what you did to your coupe'.

  28. Thats a good plan, charlie, just talked race out of his muncie four speed so the driving part is going to be lots of fun:D

Disregard the engine without carbs. I have a 327 with lots of carbs to go in it.

Listen to cleatus and the car,..... it MUST be a custom !:D

Oh,... and by the way you should lock your shop up, those are some pretty unscrupulous looking characters standing behind the car, especially the bald one,...:D
