  1. ok. is there reason that it cost so much to go to this show?? no one charges what they do. at what point did car guys figure it is better charge you these type of prices??? yes there our great customs hot rods and more. i have been builting cars for others and myself for over 25 years. but you would think the way things are ?? money is low.and how do you draw kids to this hobby? sorry. what you can pay is all that counts? needless to say i won't be spending my money there. look at the L.A. roadster show ? fair price. same place. jeff hot rod city garage

I paid $40 to drive in and park on the fairgrounds. (pre-registered) The price included my buddy also!

That's one of the cheapest events I have ever been to.

I'm really not seeing a point to this. Just doesn't seem worth a whole thread. Maybe it's just me.

i think that is fair to be honest..Think about what you got to see for that of money, the level of cars and history gathered there this past weekend was amazing.... Ive gone to really bad car shows and paid 10 to get in...and saw 1/4th the cars, NONE at that level

Doesn't sound that bad to me considering my wife and I paid $17 to park and $17 a piece to get into Chicago World of Wheels last year and it's mediocre at best. I'd gladly pay that to go to the GNRS.

well LA roadsters is mostly outdoors, this is a pretty big show with what, ? 5 huge exhibition buildings, we just had some mighty nasty
weather here a week ago [well for socal it was]. Everybody would have been able to see most all of the cars even in bad weather. Went there Fri. saw some friends and yakked, everybody was in good mood and were into the show, talkin it up, nobody complained about the price. Missed it last yr, had to miss a desert ride this year. Ya prices were up but for this show its worth it.

I did not see the $$$ being the issue on Friday or Saturday the was packed with people and no more room for drive-in cars. Not counting what it cost me from the Eastcoast
Save your 20 bucks for the movie for a 90 min show ..This place is best for the buck

Top Knotch Show at a Top Knotch SECURE place to bring and leave your car(s)....Quality and something for everyone...The nostagia alone is what GNRS has always been about! It comes but once a year so cut something out we spend on that we really don't need (starbucks for me!) My Dad, the family & I couldn't make the trip to So Cal this year have been checking out all the pics! Love them! Frankie Jr. went and said "...there's NOTHING quite like the caliber of cars that are all in one place..."
Pay the $20 and hope that it never comes to an end....

I can't complain about the price. It's fair enough.

Although.... I have to admit that my funds dried up pretty fast. This year I took two of my teenage nephews (over 12yrs old) and with the parking and the 3 adult tickets I was down $70 bucks before I even saw a car.

I had to get a beeer just to get past the sticker shock.

    Good times though.

  26. lowsquire, you're probably in the minority if you're spending 2 grand to go to a car show and if you can afford it, that's fine. For me, 2 grand is mortgage for a month and for most of us who work on our cars-every buck counts. The parking & entry fees should have been half what they were, maybe then I would have bought food & drinks(which are also WAY overpriced), but I didn't give them 1 more cent of my HARD earned money....**** em!

We have at least 50 people on the board who bought airline tickets and flew a thousand miles or more to the show.

I didn't make it this year even though I probably could have flown out Thursday afternoon and back today. That would have cost me about 1000 including airline, rental car, motel room and show tickets.

I'm not broke but I am one hell of a long way from rich and I have to rathole cash for almost anything I want to do or buy. That includes going to car shows.

The Portland Roadster show is coming up in a few weeks and it will cost at least 60 for gas, close to 20 for tickets and if my wife goes we will have to stop at least once to eat in a sit down and get served eating place. I just checked and it's in April so I have time to stash a bit of cash away so as to have the money to go.
All I'm saying is that it is one of those things that many of us have to plan a bit for.

I know this thread will close soon.....but seriously, how do you get kids into this hobby, a hobby that is full of old people, when the fee is $20 + parking? How does a kid get inspired to build a hot rod when all he sees are high dollar builds? I'm trying to help my nephews, but all they see are high prices. I skipped the GNRS for the first time this year and I'm less than a mile from the Fairplex. Every year I feel like less and less young people are there, I would really like to see more young people get into hot rodding. I saw enough old trad. hot rods leaving the show tonight heading up White Ave. drivers smiling, that was enough for me.
