Well, I guess its about time I get around to this. Ive been lurking around for a year or so, posting a little bit if I have something to say, but mostly just read and learn from the many talented folks on this forum. Ive been into all things on wheels since I was a kid outside of Detroit in the 60s. I got into model cars in a big way, and once I was old enough to have a car of my own, spent just about all of my extra time and money changing, customizing, rebuilding what ever I had. I spent too much money a few years ago restoring two 62 Tbird convertibles from basket cases to respectable drivers, and finally sold all of my Tbird stuff hoping to find something simpler. My current project is a 41 GMC long bed pickup that I picked up from a preacher in Nebraska. Right now Ive got it all apart, boxed the frame, installed IFS and new rear leafs with 9 Ford (out of a 62 Tbird), 4 wheel disks, 700r4 and a 292 Chevy I-6. The body is basically stock with original paint, and I plan to keep it that way. I love all hot rods, as well as customs. I also enjoy the creativity and simplicity of the rat rod craze. The people that build these cars have a talent for building something out of nothing that I cant help but admire. So please bear with me folks if I occasionally do something stupid, or ask an off the wall question. I am here to learn, to get ideas, to appreciate, and to be entertained. Ill try not to embarr*** myself too much.
Don't worry, it's not really my thing. I just appreciate them for what they are. My truck is more of a rustorod. Resto? not really, Rat? not that either. Just a cool old truck that looks like it is used regularly (which it is) yet has the reliability, and drivability of modern mechanicals. BTW, the AOD is so my wife can drive it. She likes it as much as I do, but she has a physical handicap that wont allow her to operate a clutch, so Im putting the AOD in so she can have fun with the truck too.
Thanks all for the greetings. especially from the locals. I hope to run into some of you this summer at the local cruise night. The weather turned nicer this afternoon, so I thought I'd get a few of the toys out and shoot a pic.
