We drove 350 miles each way, spent the night in a hotel. It was time and money well spent. Five plus hours of taking it all in. Just seeing the Winfield shop truck was worth it. If I can, I'll do it again next year.

  2. This would've been good info BEFORE the show.

I took my 2 kids to a matinée movie today ... ~$50 for the popcorn, drinks, & 3 tix to a 3D cartoon movie ... less than 2 hours of "entertainment"

    Let's see........ I went in 07
    Airplane ticket - $360.00 RT
Hotel for three nights - $320.00
Rental Car for four days - $160.00
    Food - Lost count.
Locked keys in rental car $35.00
What the heck is your problem with a show that COST Thousands to just insure.
    I had a great time.

20 bucks, what did I get?
8 hours of seeing friends from all over the country, seeing some pretty nice cars, seeing the very cool race car building and did I mention seeing friends? I don't know, for 20 bucks I had a blast. Heck, going to a movie and having a popcorn and soda can cost more than that. I don't go to movies so I spend my money on things that are important to me.

Thought it was well worth the price. This show is one of the greatest shows of all shows to attend:D

Not just any car show though is it? They have car shows in Aus, heck we even have them in SA, but they sure aren't this one. Sure it hurts, and if you don't have it you don't have it, but I won't bat an eyelid to spend $2000 or so to get to GNRS one day. Not having this kind of thing in your backyard puts a different perspective on it.......

You cant compare the GNRS show to LA roadster show.....GNRS is twice the show.

Heck, you get to stay there all day long and there is plenty to look at. If you stay 6-8 hours and you can easily do that it is really cheap entertainment per hour. That might even work out to be cheaper per hour than renting a movie. I used to go to a lot of NHRA National Events and my friends and I would always figure on the overall cost averaging out to be about $20 an hour everything included. (Tickets, motels, gas, food, parking etc.) This show sounds like a good deal to me for sure.

Our local show was this weekend, $12.50 to get in and it was LAME. I'd gladly pony up $20 to see the quality and quan***y of the GNRS. I too have paid the travel expense to get there (in Oakland anyway), still worthwhile. IMHO I can't believe anyone thinks thats to much money for that type of show compared to what it cost to do any type of event.

$20 is pretty reasonable for the 10+ hours I spent there. An amazing mix of cars, something for everyone. What kills me is the price for food and beer. My buddy got sandwich, fries, 2 bottles of water, he might have gotten some change back out of a $20
    The cheap beers were $8

  15. Man I know how you feel, I'm old enough to remember five cent Cokes, candy bars, coffee, and fifteen cent draft beer.

City of Portland charges 150 grand for a weekend event at the Expo center. I'd be willing to bet L.A. gets much more for the fairplex. add advetisment, and a hundred other expenses. they have to sell alot of twenty dollar tickets to break even.
Most events don't make a dime from parking and food and drink concessions

One thing that frosts me is, I was born and raised in L.A. never got to see the World Famous Oakland Roadster Show (GNRS) moved to Portland made the trip to the 50th year (in the Cow Palace South San Francisco) now anybody that is 2-3 hours from Pomona should happy get by for under $100 IMHO

Oh, you gotta bet that the LA County fairgrounds made money on everything, lots of money!

  17. I had a GREAT time. My son and I drove my '36 to the Donut Derlicts in the morning, stopped by the anti-donut, then went to the show. My son,16, loved it and he doesn't even like cars that much.....he's an athlete.....and I met Densie, well worth the money right there.....

$20 to walk in. $40 to drive in your car. 7 or eight buildings to browse through,400-500 cars outside to look at,venders, pinstripe auction, music,Bands in the Suede Palace, the Suede Palace alone is worth the cost!!!!saw at least 60 HAMBers. Hang out with buddies. eat chocolate chip cookies, cackle fest, laugh at the Streetrodders,be amazed at the "money's no object" cars. See all the HAMB award cars in person, take lots of pictures. OH YEAH,almost forgot...finally got to meet Ryan!!!!
You know what else...i'll do it all again next year!!!! Stop complaining! Just don't go!

    Dude,
It is like 14.00 to go to a movie. The cost of doing anything anymore is just more...... I am just more selective now. Less movies. More car shows!

32.00! What's the big deal? I'd love to live next door to the stuff you got going on. With plane tickets, motel rooms, & eats, that dam T shirt costs 1000.00. Do it every year for the LARS and every other for the GNRS. WAAWAA! l Seems lots of people don't appreciate what they got.

  23. Wait until you actually have a car, $20 would be downright cheap.
    No whining, please.

"Is there a reason it costs so much to go to this show?" Yes. (A) - the promoter can sell tickets at that price ... I was there Friday and today and the place was crowded most of the time. (B) - Can you imagine what Los Angeles County charges for 4 days rent on the facility? ... not cheap. (C) - If you are into rods & customs, there are few indoor shows other than the Detroit show to compare with the GNRS for quality and quan***y. (D) Check the prices on other entertainment options in L.A. ... Been to Disneyland or a Lakers game lately? This was a bargain in comparison.

Sorry you missed it ... it was a great show.

Best weekend ever , great weather , great people, great cars (too many to count ) well worth every-penny , food/drink costs are a joke but that is the fairplex not the show promoters.

I'll be there next year too with a bigger booth so I'll spend plenty more pennies & have a blindin' time again.

In 2007, the wife and I went to BOTH the GNRS and the LA Roadster show.
    2500 miles one way.

Figure up what those two shows cost me. :)

Gladly paid it and consider the $$$ well spent.

Plan on doing BOTH again ... maybe 2011 :D :D
Planning on going to the LA Roadster show this year ... ( 2010 )

In 2007, after the LA Roadster show, the wife and went up the Pacific Coast Highway all the way to Golden Gate Bridge, then
wandered home to South Carolina. 7500 miles ... just in June.

It cost almost $20 to get into some mediocre shows here in Ohio much less the grand daddy of them all. I am hoping to get there in the next few years and it will likely cost me over $1,000. It will be worth it because I've wanted to go since I was a kid. I would however pay some serious dough for really good cookies. I love cookies......

  28. In my opinion, the GNRS is a show everyone should aspire to attend at least once in a lifetime. The Detroit Autorama is a close second for me. That said, this thread is GAY!

Let's see more pics! What an astounding car culture you guys have out there...
