With all the snow we had, couldn't do much else but work in the shop this weekend. Time to quit dragging my feet and get this quarter tacked on. Where the factory welded the top pieces together before installing the roof skin, we'll have to tackle it this time from the bottom side. Here's how the upper structure goes together with the roof. The window frame/top of quarter is what we removed up top, and with all this roof in the way, it will need welding from the bottom side. Here is where we're going to find access: The "slots" were measured from the front edge of our cut to locate some plug weld holes on the top flange of the quarter. A Roper Whitney hand punch will make short work of the holes. Now before tacking the quarter in place, one of the modifications I had planned was to eliminate the pinch welded flanges in the back end, to try and eliminate some of those moisture/dirt traps. The flanges on the old were trimmed to the corners, and the new quarter was trimmed with 1/8" extra. This was flattened out to fill the gap you normally see when the leaded seam is removed, and should fit up nicely for a **** welded seam. Quarter fitted: Plug weld holes shown aligned inside our access holes. I used my flattened plug weld hole drill bit to clean out the little bit of surface rust inside the holes. 1/8" clecos were used to pull the inner quarter up tight: And that will be all the fun for today........what did everyone else get done?
Lookin good man, I didn't get a god damn thing done. Luckily, I don't work on Monday which is why I'm still up with a drink at 4:15 AM, but hopefully I'll get some new motor mounts made for the '54 tomorrow.
The hard work shows..beautiful work. I just fought with trying to install fender apron rubber on the wagon,,HRP
Well I didn't get nearly as much done as you did and what I did do doesn't compare that what you did. Maybe next week I'll have some progress to report. Still won't be as much fun as what you got done. Nice work
That is looking schweet! Good job, I started my 47 ford panel build a week ago. By last Friday I was tripping over **** and pant leg getting caught on dam near anything around the panel. So Saturday and Sunday was cleaning up the garage and putting things out of my way. Now back to the fun!
It was to cold in the garage so I brought the old M/T's into the house for a polish job. It wasn't cold enough to keep me from putting them on though !
Made the tough decision to break my roadster down to nothing this weekend. From a running roller to a bare frame by Sunday. Ended up welding up the underneath's last night. Notching for lines, gusseting, and paint prep to follow all week.
All I did this weekend was my girlfriend...and did some parts shopping for the '57 Pontiac I'm dragging home this spring...not much else I can do at the new house until I find a job and get my shop/garage built...
Drove from Sacramento to Burbank to pick up the new dragster ch***is, and then vegged out yesterday, because I'm not 22 anymore and somewhere along the lines 18 hours in the truck now takes it out of me! Did goof around with the dragster a little though- reindexing the steering and looking for any excuse to climb in and out of it! ;-) http://rocinanteridesagain.wordpress.com/
Wow.....awesome work. I managed to get my hood fixed (I can't weld to save my freakin life, so I had a body guy take care of it). Also got my wipers working. Took longer than it should have. Exhaust next weekend!
Beat on my A sedan fenders all weekend which turned out to be 4 days long because of the weather. I thought I was going to have to throw them away but with some time and patience it looks like I can save them after all.
Nice work, they tured out great. I actually got so tired of polishing my m/t's that I just bead blasted them and now they have a raw aluminum look like my intake. Not sure if that is sacrilegious, but I'm digging the way they look for now!
I test fitted the new rear end in my olds .marked where to put the lower shock mounts on saturday. On sundayi pulled it back out started weling my shock mounts then my welder died ,everything went down hill from there
I had good intentions, honest! needed to start by cleaning out shop and putting s*&t away. 'bout the only thing that got "put away" were adult beverages, 12 oz at a time
I pulled the heads off my freshly rebuilt nailhead. I had a valve train problem. Discovered that the keepers were banging on the tops of the seals and that caused the spring bands around the seals to pop off and get tangled in the spring, keeper, etc...one of them bent my exhaust side pushrod on #3 cylinder. Apparently the machine shop cut down the outside diameter of the guides to 0.500 so the seals would fit, but didn't check the keeper to seal clearance. They need to be cut down (height) also. Heads are back at the machine shop, spent the rest of the weekend working on my trunk...new insulation, carpet, and a liner kit from Cars, Inc. I'm on my way out to the garage to work on it some more tonight. I should finish the trunk in tomorrow night. I should have the heads back this week and installed this weekend. Oh, I ordered a finned lifter valley cover also. I should have it Wednesday, I'll paint it (between the fins) Thursday night and it'll go on with the heads and intake on Saturday.
We finely got the doors fenders and hood lined up on my 64 F100. I'm waiting on the Rad I ordered. I hope it will be in this week. A freind of mine is working on the wireing for me, and when he's done, we can fire the *****. It's coming. I'm not posting pictures until she done. I'm not sure I like it yet. I think once it's together, it will appeal to me.
I finished my Nash hotrod for the second time, and put about 50 miles on it this weekend. I also did this!
I worked on the interior of my 40 coupe. I had the rear area panel done and now working on the door panels and built a set of arm rests out of wood. The wood panel is my pattern and will do the finish in ABS plastic.
