The mounts are not done I am putting some gussets in there for added strength. The shocks were an after thought after I did the steering and if I switch them around the upper steering arm hits the shock. I thought the more vertical they were the more shock travel you would have= smoother the ride?

I bought all the windshield stuff from Sacramento Vintage Ford. The stuff is expensive but I needed it. The frame is an original in very rough shape, I am just going to buy a chrome one when the time comes.

Yeah I traded around alot of parts and making the frame myself save alot of money.
When its all said and done to the point I want it, it will probably be in the $8000 range.

  6. mediumriser,
Great project there - and ya get to work with your dad! I wish my dad was here to ride in my roadster this spring when we finally get it on the road. I know he would have liked it. I used a glass body too and installed a metal firewall band and I'm very pleased with it. I'd do it all again!
I'm thinking all the praise goes to all those folks who build those glass bodies! Cost is, for most people, a consideration. Pro or con, those new bodies are helping to keep the hot rod thing alive for the next generations...

Well the pitman arm thing was bugging me so I have been searching and so far I have come to the conclusion that its a 53-56 F100 arm.

Do yourself and others on the road a favor and get a Pitman arm MEANT for that box. The shaft is tapered and configured for full spline engagement as the nut is tightened.
I BELIEVE just about any pitman arm from an early Ford car or truck will work...but the F100 is a different animal entirely.

Guys...lets help him out here...just what Pitman arms will have the right spline configuration for the F1 box????

Been getting really cold weather and snow storms so Slow Progress. Body work is getting pretty close, but a change of plans car is now going to be Summit Paint Hot Rod black. Body wasn't as straight as we thought. O'well I think it will still look good. I'll try to have pics up tomorrow.

Just bought the correct pitman arm from chaddilac on here, great dude and good price.
Maybe I will get my steering shaft exactly parallel with my wishbone so I don't have any bumpsteer. Will have pics tomorrow. The Boy comes first. hahahah

Your model A looks great ,You might want to trim off 2 and a half inches off the side of your shell.Thats the best height ....

    Great on the pitman arm!
You might not be as far off on the steering (regarding bumpsteer) as you think.
Parallel 4 links require the draglink to be perfectly parallel...but a wishbone is a different animal.

Heres a diagram, originally posted by RELIC STEW on a different thread, that shows your likely very close as you are! :D
Check it to make sure of course...

Just curious. Doesn't a 57 283 lack side motor mounts. Thought they only had mounts up front which means you would need a saddle mount or similar.

Yes your lower shock mounts need to be switched left with right and right with left, it will help lots.

Also make sure your steering push rod is close to parallel with the ground when the engine is sitting in it.
If not you my find it maybe a problem.

The engine #'s came out to be a 57? And it had side mount bosses. I over looked some things with the shocks and steering, so they are gonna have to stay the way they are.

Body work is about 90% Blew the chassis apart for paint and assembly. Now the ball is rolling down hill.

I have a ? about your F1 box. Did you graft a model A flange on it to mount to your frame?

Yep frame is all painted. Put the front end on for good. Have to fab up some shock headlight mounts. Rear end will all be installed this week and I hope to have it all an the ground and rolling on Friday. I will get up some pics this week. Also my friend is now going to mix up a batch of paint out of all the left over silver and grays he has, so the car is gonna be some shade of medium silverish gray. Trying to have it driving for Wades cruise the 2nd or 3rd Saturday in April.
