    my 2 cents:

no skirts - there is a set on ebay now and the look HUGE - not my taste

great car - a nice two tone paint scheme goes real well!

it looks like it has A/C - that might be nice to keep intact as well (not sure if it is factory or not) but i would deffinately make sure to keep all parts w/ it

    good luck

If you consider using an open drive line may I suggest the following drive train:

    Buick 64-66 401/425 Nailhead
Buick 65-66 SP400 turbo hydramatic (switch pitch) from 401/425
60-72 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup with coil suspension, rear axle and full suspension (2 link type). This suspension is the least costly and the trailing arms only require a new crossmember to mount the front ends of the trailing arms.

Considering the cost of a transmission adapter for the 322 (1k or more) to mount a modern transmission, I believe my suggestions are within that price tag, and more suitable, especially since you will need to modify the rear end suspension no matter what with an open drive line.

    Just a thought!

  5. Two things come to mind. The first is very simple if you stole it give it back, beg for the woner to not press charges and get yourself on the straight n narrow. :D:D

The second is pretty straight forward also. Go through the nailhead if it needs it. You had to learn about SBCs in the begfinning the nailhead is just another engine shouldn't be hard to learn. Dress the engine for the ball.

If its a slushbox update to a later ****** and open driveline those early Buick autos were awful. I probably wouldn't go the Od route myself just gear it the way you want it and drive it.

Lastly mild custom with a decent paint job is what I would do with it, I lean towards '60s style customs myself but you have to do what floats your boat as far as era.

You may need new gl***es because it says Special bigger than Dallas on the rear quarter and three port holes mean it's a Special.

Love those old Buicks of that body style. I had a 55 Special with a Super engine in it that I had a hell of a lot of fun in back in the mid sixties.

Old cars are only original once, after you cut it up the value usually goes away. I would get it running reliably, clean it up and enjoy the ride. Some day you will get offered lots of cash for it.

Got my specs on, and looking at both pics of the placards on each side, it says Super, with the S in the circle. You may want to magnify by clicking twice.

BTW: Only roadies had 4 holes (ventaports), whereas Specials, Centurys, and Supers had 3. This does not apply for 58 Models as they went by-by for a year, then in 59 all newly named models.

  9. Why change the rear end?
Skirts, wide whites, 3x2 and away you go.....dice!
If it was an exotic dancer THEN I would cut and paste it....

    50's Buick models: Special= small engine(264) and small body. Century= big engine(322)
and small body. Super= small engine(264) and big body. Roadmaster= Big engine(322) and big body. Also Specials and Super both had 3 fender port holes, Century and Roadmaster both had 4 fender port holes. I've owned a bunch of '53,'54, and '55 Buicks in my life time plus several '41's.

If you are refering to the pictures in the first post of the maroon Buick Check the p***enger side view SUPER! In 1954 only Roadmasters had 4 portholes. The Special, Super and Century all had 3 portholes. If I am wrong, Pal I do need more than gl***es. The Super had a higher trunk line and shared it's body with the Roadmaster. Special and Century shared bodies.
