Congratulations to the winner! Not my first choice, but a very cool traditional roadster and a deserving winner just the same.

Did you guys see the cute as hell '40 Bantam with a souped up V8-60? What a fine piece of work, so small it got lost in the crowd. The finned heads even said "BANTAM".

No ropes: I got a picture with 'The Car That Ate My Brain', Von Franco's Kookie T. It was better than a picture with Catherine Bach!

Or how about the T touring with the bamboo top and lit tiki torches?

So much fun and diversity. Old skool rules. Next year we bring ours.

  6. Thanks for letting us have a little say in who got the award. Had I really looked hard at the interior in #10, I almost certainly would have voted for Logan's roadster (#1).

All in all, some absolutely stunning cars from which to choose. Great article.

Nice to meet you there Ryan, i'm sorry we didn't get a chance to jaw a little. This year was a particularly good one for the GNRS, (even though I somehow missed the Rod & Custom building!!)

  9. The wife and I just got back to KC after an unbelievable weekend. I too was so geeked on the whole affair that I missed the meet and greet. Congrats to Logan on a fine car.

I recognized a lot of people but was too shy to say hello. Ryan , was that you and Blake at Old Crow on Thursday afternoon?

Great read and so true in the words written. I went Fri. and had a blast. Just seeing the old race cars and the fellas behind them and their cool stories was so surreal. Reading the info about the Pontiac's was cool as well with the other cars in that bldg. Damn, the orginal interior (Martinez) of the Stone,Woods,Cook Willy and the restored exterior is jaw dropping! Another highlight was Kevin Sledge's '40 Mercury Custom, awesome! And great pick on the Logan's roadster! Though I'm more of a COUPES type.

  16. This was my first time going too this show and was just blown away at how much was there and how big it was. I saw you Ryan, Denise and I think Kism all talking and did not want to **** in. I did hang out with Brain B*** and Evil for awhile and saw some other people that I know. The cars were just off the scale in quality and different types of cars. I was amazed at how much was there for everyone and every taste in cars. Sunday went snowboarding in big bear and then home at midnight and back at work at 6:30 am after a 7 hour drive home. Will be at the show again next year.

Also, sad to hear about Nick Matranga's failing health, heard about it at the GNRS. Hope he can pull it off (prayers).

  18. Anyone else notice how many chopped 40 Merc coupes were there. I think I counted 5 or 6. I love those things!

I'm partial to the 75th Anniversary of the Deuce year. The entire feel was one of back to the basics and back to the traditional roots of our sickness, in both Rods and Customs. Almost all the cars I saw there were well done and thought out, doesn't mean I liked them all but I did appreciate them. Kudos to all involved this year....... this one will be hard to beat! <!--EndFragment-->

Hey Steve, That was not the Von Franco car you were posing next to. That was the new Kookie car that Reno Rod & Custom in Oklahoma City just built. His never had a top and his rear pipes went up not out the back. This is the car that Norm Grabowski uses as his background when he's at shows signing autographs. He has signed this one. He says it's the "Best one yet". If you saw the two together you would see that there are quite a few differences between the two. Pipes, rear spring, wheelbase, etc.. Next time you see it, ask the guys standing around it. They'll be glad to tell you all about it.

    Ryan,
Great selection of Hot Rods to choose from for the 2010 JJ trophy. It was a tough call.

    Logan,
Your roadster was right on target and is absolutely beautiful. I took a lot of photos of your roadster I liked it so much. I believe your roadster epitomizes what this place is all about. Great job and keep that dream alive!
