I have a real traditional project in the shop right now. Its a real Westergard custom, its a '41 with '47 front end and rear bumper,'48 rear quarters, Carson style top, and full fade a ways. It was customized in '48.
Very cool strangeman!!!!!! Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, RPW, you say Curt? Isnt there a Kustom nut named Curt? Please keep us updated on the RE-build.
That's really neat. What is the plan: a full period restoration, or something else? Do you have photos of how it looked in its prime?
ohhh a cool car with history from the 40ies man is that awesome or what. more more more pictures! it looks really cool as is now would be cool to se pics of its prime and after restoration /Daemon
I will keep you posted on progress. We just had it media blasted and are starting on it. We are going to save as much old lead work as we can, for coolness factor. It(the lead work) and the metal work on the fade a ways are surprisingly nice, especially when you think back to what they had to work with!! We are doing it as period as we can. It is going to be an awesome learning and history project for me. Mr. McCormick (the owner) knows his stuff(has a few Barris cars and the R&C Dream Truck), he gets all excited about all the details, thats the customers that make this enjoyable. He is great to work with. That is the first succesfull pic post I have done...well OK the wife has done. So more will follow as progress continues. Thanks for looking and responding.
More info PLEASE - Like where has it been hiding? Where/how did Kurt get ahold of it? Original owner info? Any chance Mr. McCormick has photos of it in its former glory? - if so, please post - Spill it man - we must know more. Westergard is god. Like RPW said, get Kurt on here.
The story I got from Kurt was, the car spent most of its life in the Sacramento area, then it made its way to the Bay area, it was owned by an excentric guy, as he put it. Kurt tried to buy it for a few years, the guy was a serious Wilhelm custom nut, so Kurt found a Wilhelm car and traded with the help of another guy. I am not real sure how lone Kurt has had it, he hadsome of the metal work done to fix some rust before I got it. We are going to do it right, frame off type of redo. Maroon is the the projected color with maroon and white or off white tuck and roll/pleated interior. It has cool little skirts for it that are not on in the pick, it evev getting a chromed dash! He has tons of neat old little things, evene the correct old antenna, he has a basiclly museum warehouse of neat parts and trinkets for cars all stashed and boxed. I wil try for a real shot. I will post more as progress goes along, I don't get on to post very often, but I will try on this one.
FOR ALL YOU WESTERGUARD LOVERS CHECK OUT THE HOUSTON AUTORAMA POST THATS UP TODAY. The 40 Merc with the fadeaways was built by Harry wersterguard. Check out the Graham style hood treatment.Jack Walker told me he found this thing a few years ago when we wre talking at Gettysburg and this is the 1st Ive seen of it exept for many articles on westerguard.
[ QUOTE ] Any chance Mr. McCormick has photos of it in its former glory? [/ QUOTE ] Have a look in issue 5 of Garage magazine. There's a small pic in the Westergard article that certainly appears to be this car.

I love Westergard stuff! Yeah, if you have the chance, keep us posted. For me, anyway, thank Mr. McCormick for saving the old customs. Thanks for sharing, Steve
[ QUOTE ] Which the merc or kurts [/ QUOTE ] This caddy. I didn't have the HAMB to compare the two pics last night when I was looking in Garage...certainly looked close, same side profile, screen and top. Rear quarters were different though now that I see the caddy again on here.
