I'm flying to California at the end of the month. Landing in San Francisco, driving Hwy 101 to LA. Looking for suggestion on things to do and must sees!

I'm not interested in theme parks, or shopping. But fun stuff. Sweet skateboard parks, hot rod related anything of course.

And a good tattoo place along the way.

    Thanks,
    Kensey

If your not in a hurry I would recommend taking Hwy 1 rather than 101 at least as far south as Santa Barbara...one of the most incredable coast lines in the world...Big Sur, Monterey, etc. Have a great trip

Yes, take 1 not 101, you won't be sorry. Skateboards?, well San Franicsico if you are actually going into the city before you head down or Santa Cruz for starters on that.

    Monterey - the aquarium.

A few years ago I drove I-1 from Long Beach to Oregon.
It was beautiful, even in the rain.
If you do I-1 stop at Cambria and tour the Hearst Castle.

Stop at my place.. Bear Metal Kustoms.
Right on Highway 1 in Morro Bay. Halfway between San Fran and L.A... good place to spend the night...we are 30 minutes south of Hearst Castle and 2 hours nrth of Santa Barbara. Cool skatepark right near us too..... Even if you plan to stay on 101.. we are only 12 miles from the 101...Jason.

Big Sur, then San Simeon, Then my shop in Morro Bay.. then over to Los Osos for the skate park, then jump on 101 till you get down to Santa Barbara.. Then get back on the 1 to check out the beaches....

  11. You are driving along the coast..nice view, and in some areas nice forest.
I'd pack a lunch and stop somewhere in the middle to enjoy..

If you are afraid of driving winding, narrow roads with a long dropoff to your side, then reconsider..just so you know.

In the Monterey Bay area as you are heading south, the "17 Mile Drive" through Pebble Beach area is magnificent. Stop in and say hello to Clint Eastwood and Doris Day in Carmel...:)

If you enjoy motorcycles, (vintage race bikes etc.) the Solvang Vintage Motorcycle Museum is worth spending some time on.

Dittos! Very cool place! To see as much as possible you will probably have to split your time on 1 and 101!

  17. If you are into road racing, try to p*** through Montery on a weekend. Mazda Laguna Seca raceway is but a few miles from Montery and one of the best and most challenging tracks in the U.S. Lots of gr***y areas from which to watch (go to the corkscrew for some thrills). I have raced there many times.....I guess I'd better stop or I'll be on a week long bummer. I stopped racing several years ago and the itch never goes very far away. Have a ball!

Santa Cruz has a very good skate park kinda near the Boardwalk (San Lorenzo Bl at Riverside). Also a Saturday morning car get-together in the parking lot @ Home Depot on 41st ave.

Highway 1 is definately the better choice. Got a chance to drive it last summer when i was in cali to race at California motor speedway. We drove up Highway 1 to visit one of our sponsors in Monterey that makes out axle shafts. Make sure you stop at Leguna Seca and see the track.

I'll second that, and Hearst's Castle, Laguna Seca Raceway, and Motosolvang.
