It's worth the ride just to go to his Museum. I'm concerned about some of the cars that show up, not the name.

if he is not intertaining or on camera at the time he's ok, if you catch him with a one on one conversation you will see the real Don, a ass he can be.

this show says LOOK AT ME.

Garlits was willing to do another billet proof, but the idea of charging spectators was out of the question, also Garlits still had plenty of room for cars. Guys this will be a good show. Billet proof had several "rat rods" (I hate that term too) at the show, so ease off the old man. As for a clone, Garlits is an INOVATOR!!!

I'm going to go. What does it matter if the guy wants to have a show.
I think using "Rats" in the name these days is a bad idea. I don't want to see a bunch of death trap, waste of a good car, crap buckets either. He is the Swamp Rat though. Rat means more to him than just a crappy car.

I'll probably go as well, but just to spectate this year to see how it goes. The "no pre-registration" thing might cause a problem at the gate.

If the show has a lot of actual hot rods and customs, and not a bunch of rat rods and street rods, I'll go "for real" next time.

  12. Florida needs more good shows, speaking for myself, I hope it goes well.

  13. Florida needs more shows for sure...

But we also need to make sure the shows are about quality and not quantity of cars. I'll be there b/c I can't complain about there being no shows and not supporting them when they start.

I imagine I'll be there too. With the Groundhog Day show this weekend, Billetproof, VLV (which I'm attending this year) and now this show all in Spring it seems like such a big lull during Summer. We really need to get some traditionally themed Summer shows or night time cruises going on between May and October down here.

Most people wont ever accomplish a tiny fraction of what Don Garlits has.

If you have a quality traditional car, bring it, than it wont be all rat-rods.

I sent Big Daddy a note about this show. I encouraged him to do another show, the more the better.... the only problem is that I intend to move Billetproof back to the 3rd week in March date in 2011. I couldnt get the date at the fairgrounds in 2010. The problem here is that there will be 3 good shows piled on top of each other in the space of a month. This years Billetproof is too close to the Rumblers show in time, not my ideal set up. Now another show right on top of it. Not the best set up.

    sigh......

  25. Cut Big Daddy some slack. He was "traditional" and the original "Swamp Rat" hot rodder before most people on board were born. The "rat rodders" term has been overused and has been applied to everything these days. Go there an educate the masses what "traditional" means. I think the average "rat rodder" would rather build a traditional car the next time if he ever learns about this site. I think having an event at his museum would be the ultimate event, wish it wasn't so far away and I could be there!

We did have Billetproof there the last two years. GREAT event. The problem is we out grew the limited space he has in his backyard, caused a 40 minute backup on the freeway and overwhelmed the food vendors and porta-potties.

massive crowd with no possibility of crowd control and no place for spectator parking (we filled the 80 acres I rented next door with spectator cars by 11am and had to start turning people away).

a good time, but it was going to end in tears if he had there again this year.

The problem is in Florida. You have a very short period of truly comfortable weather.

I can't believe the crap about hating certain cars, if you don't like it walk on by. How friggin hard is that to figure out? You're not going to stop junk until people quit looking at them. Anyone knows the junk gets noticed more than lots of well built cars. All of us have seen junk so unsafe that it has to be hauled in and people swarm around them. I'm guilty, I look at them, it doesn't take me long to see if it's a limited resources car or a purposely built death trap.
I don't care if Don is a butthole or a preacher, I'll go if I can make it. I like any kind of a car show with a swap meet. Might see some of you at Zephryhills after Daytona and then on to Don's.

If Big Daddy is putting on a show at his place,
he can call it whatever he wants.

The man has done more, than most here have ever dreamed of.

Don't like the name, stay home.
