I saw "Scott" of scotts hot rods on TV once. Fat dude with a high pitched voice that drove me nutz. He doesnt even work on the car, he has workers that build for him.

Socal doesnt take credit for what Jimmy Shine builds do they? Just an example.

I do think this website has influenced my taste to hotrods though. I now appreciate the beauty in simplicity.

I think maybe theres a little overreacting goin on. It's well written, to the point , and I don't think its really negative.

I'm glad we are recognized for what we are.
I take no offense at what he said.

The "official" AMBR award just represents monies that are just out of my league, even if I DID like the style of build.

Besides, the JJ and HAMB is being seen as a "force to be reckoned with" :D:rolleyes:

I read it a little different.

This is Hemmings recognizing that 'America's Most Beautiful Roadster' may not be representative of all Americans. The Jalopy Journal award represents a significant group of rodders with a different view of what is most beautiful in a hot rod.

Though the overlap in the two groups of finalists suggests some of the AMBR judges were looking at things HAMB'rs value.

I certainly take no offense at the word malcontent, the content a**** us never accomplish anything.

I think some of you are reading it wrong...we're not content with the recent AMBR style vehicles, and as a reaction to that we now give out the TJJ award...do I need to make it simpler than that for any of you?...

Looks to me that he's just echoing what's been said here since the awards. What's wrong with that?
And since when has anyone been against being called a Rebel?
Some of you guys would argue with a fence post, and change sides if it started to agree with you. LOL

Someone please tell me what the point of having matching luggage in a display car is? That car ****s, why any of you care that it won the AMBR is beyond me. That award means nothing, it's handed out by idiots. If I owned a Roadster I'd be proud to say those *****s didnt like it..................it would mean I did something right. The HAMB award is much different, it's chosen by people with taste, the car I voted for (the Tub) didnt win but the one that did is lightyears ahead (or behind) the pile of **** that won the AMBR.

I think the complimentary tone of the message was completely lost on a lot of you guys...

And isn’t one of the intents of this site to spread the gospel of traditional Hot Rods and Kustoms to hoodlums worldwide.

Hoodlums and malcontents some of my favorite people.

OK, I get it Daniel was writing satire and didn't mean to marginalize "Traditional Hot Rods" to his readers! Does this mean Daniel is a "hoodlum" too since he belongs to the HAMB? LOL:D

That's really ironic.....Daniel Strohl's old modified web-site is what lead me to TJJ many years ago...(BTW - HRS is a new profile).....

  23. As stated, the man's a writer;he pushed a ****on and activated a reaction and response. I had no problem with the article. I thought he made an interesting comparison between styles and where judging subjectivity may be headed.

  24. I'm much happier being thought of as a malcontent than a hoodlum!

  25. As Denise so rightly pointed out, matching luggage is VERY traditional. Car manufacturers of higher priced cars than Fords offered matching luggage as options from the end of WW1, and some of the upper end cars like Packard came with it whether you wanted it or not.

  26. I think we are proud to have become the people our parents warned us about. Reactionary, revolutionary, misfits, malcontents, hoodlums, hot rodders. Whatever "label" may be appropriate.

Although I have in the past been labeled a malcontent, I much prefer the lable "man ****".

I think everybody missed this part of my original post:

Sorry Foul/Daniel, if your work e-mail is now overflowing with irate messages from reactionary malcontents.

    -Dave

P.S. My grandfather had fitted, matching luggage built for the Mercedes he bought new in '59. In fact, I still have some of it (the luggage, not the Mercedes).

I like that fact that the H'AMBR is mentioned in the same breath as the AMBR...

I have never seen matching luggage in a "Hot Rod"! Is that what they used on their trips to Muroc in a 1948? :D
