does anyone have any pictures of a package tray (holds briefcase and misc. stuff) for a 1956 ford business sedan? thanks
no i have a 56 ford mainline business sedan but it is missing the tray for a briefcase and misc. where the back seat would be. im trying to find a pic of what that tray looks like.
Ford up until 1956 offered a "business" coupe and sedan, these were traveling salesmans cars they did not have a back seat but rather a large open area for storage of samples, etc and an occasional farmers daughter. You might want to contact the Jim Still museum for more info and also vist the forums at www.lovefords.org best of luck, these cars are getting very rare and many have been converted if you look at the distance from the rear window to the back of the trunk as compared to a std. 2 door sedan it is obvious.
I could not find a 55,56 but just for comparison check out the difference between the rear windows and the trunk lids. The first pics are business coupes, pic 3 &4 are std.2 door cars.
yes that is what i have. but im trying to get a picture of what the briefcase tray looks like. thanks
The 54s were just a flat plywood platform with a rubber mat. I think it had a metal lip on the front to keep the samples from sliding off when you hit the brakes. I believe the front riser was plywood cut to match the undulations of the floor. It's been a couple of years and I had no camera. The door panels and the separator from the trunk were just the same cardboard used for the kick panels in the front. The 54s had rubber mounted side windows that did not move or kick out. I've never seen a 55 or 56. Unless you are doing a high end restoration you should be able to fudge it and be pretty damn close. Good luck finding a factory mat. They are so rare that most people don't understand what you are talking about. A friend has a 57 Chevy "utility sedan" and he actually found a factory mat. He did a fabulous job on the rear area using the cardboard door panel material. It has the fixed windows too.
See if you can post a photo of one of these 1955 or 1956 coupes.I have never seen one.I used to have a 54 coupe and all the literature I found said it was the last year of the short roof coupe bodies. They have got to be the most rare of the 55-56 Fords.I have never seen it on any of the Ford sales literature.
tommy thank you for the info. yes my side windows are solid mounted and the door panels and the separator from the trunk are the same cardboard used for the kick panels in the front. im trying to find a pic of what it looks like so i can try to make it.( if it is made of plywood) ill keep searching and thank you again for the info.
You might want to check out the Crown Victoria ***ociation, its a club for 54 to 56s and someone might have one or know where to get the parts you need. There is someone locally who sells 55/56 Ford parts so PM me and I will get you his phone number and email address. I am trying to find a rare buisness option for my 65 custom 500 which is a fold down rear seat,I think most of it is the same for a wagon but there is a trim part that goes on the edge of the package shelf that is needed to make it look right.
well junkyardjeff. it looks like this is going to be harder then i thought. i emailed bob and he said that he couldn't help me. and that he didn't even know that they still made this model in 1956. but thank you again for getting me his information.
I have seen a 57 Ford business sedan also. I don't know when they stopped producing business sedans but I know Chevy and Ford still had them in 57. I think that was about the end of the run. I'd just make a plywood shelf and cover it with generic rubber matting. Who is going to tell you it's not "correct"? The windows prove it's authenticity if it really matters. It's a rare piece.
A couple years ago i almost bought a 56 2dr sedan. It had a back seat but it had stationary quarter windows.
Probably an added back seat when it became a used car. There was a 54 business coupe at a Ohio show last year with the added back seat. He liked the extra seating but he knew it stated life with out the seat. I'd have yanked it out in a heart beat.
tommy thank you so much for that link to the 57 business! i now have an idea to what the 56 business package tray looks like! and the 57 is metal witch leads me to believe that the 56 is metal and not plywood! thank you!
check with Thunderplex on this site. He has a 56 Mainline with the rear platform you're talking about. Maybe he can snap some pics for you.
I have a 55 Mainline Business Coupe that has the package tray. If you still need pictures of it let me know as I have it out right now.
I'd love to see pictures. My 2dr started as a customline but I'm de-tuning it into a mainline. Ford must have added the trim after the brochure was printed.
Back in the day, a friend of mine had a 55 Ford two door sedan with a small rear quarter window and a worn out Cadillac motor that had almost no oil pressure. He drained the oil and filled the crankcase with Motor Medic which had the consistency of honey to sell the car. Wish I had that car today, I'd replace the motor and go down the road.
Yes take the pictures and post them here on the HAMB. Then anyone can refer to it years later. That is what's so nice about the HAMB. I bet that there are several people that would consider making one if they knew what it looked like.
