My buddy is getting a 55 pontiac cheiftan and i have a set of wheels I'm not using. My question is does anyone know the lug patterns of these cars? Thanks.
awesome i have a set of chrome reverse wheels that are 5 on 5 brand new I'm not using should look sweet on there. Thanks guys.
Just be advised that reversed wheels may not work on the rear of the Pontiac. The clearance is extremely close.I have 215/65R-15's on stock wheels and the clearance is minimal.
Clearance is extra close as safariknut says. I am running H78-14's on my rear and have an occasional rub around a corner.
they are 5 on 5" bolt circle. they also have left and right hand threaded wheel studs so custom lug nut selection is going to be limited.
Ya I knew the width may be a problem with being reversed. I didn't know bout the lh threads. Good lookin out fellas . Hes going to be picking it up next week lucky bastard only payed 400bux for the score turns out hes been asking about the car. The guys uncle didnt want to sell it then he just passed away like last week so he told my buddy he would sell it to him for 400. From what I saw the body is straight as an arrow other than the hood and trunk lid. It will be a nice project. I'll try to get some pics up once shes safely at his house.
I just bought right and left handed lugs off of ebay for my Dads 57 olds.I think they were actually mopar lugs but they worked great on the olds
Another problem with tire clearance on a 55-56 is if you are running factory fender skirts;the brackets that hold the skirts on will hit the tires as well. When I got my Safari it had the factory recommended 7.10x15 bias ply tires and they came very close to hitting the wheel well lip and that was without the skirt brackets.Supposedly 7.60x15 tires were optional on them but I can't believe they would clear the rear fenders at all.
To try to get anything wider to fit in between the drum and quarter requires to disconnect shock from spring perch and or disconnect rear of leaf spring from frame. It has a thru bolt on the back shackles that holds the shackles to each other. That or try putting the tire in flat than air it up. Either situation would suck trying to change out a flat tire out on the road.
You may be able to knock the left hand lugs out and changed them to right hand . I did that on an old mopar front straight axle . They were just wedged in .
I have a 4 doot Chieftan I'm parting out right now. I have the engine and trans, chrome, dash, steering. In fact, the only things I've sold so far are the radiator and the exhaust manifolds. If you want I'll send pictures. PM a request if interested.
