Hello, Anyone here have any suggestions on good SoCal shops or individuals to chop an early 1940's chevy coupe? I want someone who will do the whole job from start to finish, not just chop and tell you to go to a body person. Any suggestions? THANKS! Josh
I can help you out,, I know a shop that has done a car just like yours already so they have pics of their work for you Bigdaddy I sent you a PM
By far....Jack's Lowrodders in Fountain Valley on Kalama River road. Excellent metalwotk by Brandon Winters, and very nice FINSHING OFF of their work. I chopped my '50 Ford myself, but had I not, they would have cone it for sure. I am VERY picky when it comes to this subject; just too many hacks and butchers out there. Most people don't have a good eye for design let along poor workmanship. Go to www.lowrodders.com You will not be dissapointed...
Go to a hamber if you can . . . Killer and Lowsprings both post how-to's and show thier work in bare metal for all the world to see right here on the hamb- You can't get better insurance of a good job than that. I think Lowsprings might have actually taken one day off recently. . don't let him get too lazy . . keep him off the streets and out of trouble he's at www.blackwidowkustoms.com
The jalopy shoppe(C&G) Builds some very cool stuff. Also Randy Clark at Hot Rods and Custom Stuff. both in Escondido if your in the north san diego area.
Rudy in Fullerton has a real good eye for sleek chops like he did on that '40 Merc. Very nice chop. The welds on that Merc were all kind of nasty MIG welds though, and was going to need a LOT of metal finishing and/or skim coat of filler. So I don't know if he does hammer welding, but you can ask him. Really good metal men are going to make for a real expensive chop, keep that in mind. I would imagine chop jobs can range from $2,500 to $15,000, depending on who you go to, the quality of the finish, and what kind of work is done during the chop.
I'm real impressed by Lowsprings metal work. I saw a grill opening that he posted on the HAMB at his house and I can say it didn't need very much more than a skin coat. Nice old school (spelled with the c&h) hammer and dolly stuff. Support your local HAMBer

Killer. By the way, I tried to say your ***le five times, real fast, and think I broke my tongue.
Let me put this back to the top for Lowsprings as well, he is working on my 54 Chevy right now, truely professional, and does amazing work. Goes out of his way on the projects I have seen. Even drove down to my house, hour 1/2 to help my load my car to bring to him. Check his site out lots of pics of his work T

[/ QUOTE ] Yes, Jay dean at the Jalopy Shoppe does very nice work. I live about 30 miles north of his shop in Escondido. Number is (760)740 2421. If that # does not work, try 2400. Randy Clark over at Hot Rods and Custom Stuff, right down the street from Dean, does great work as well, but extremely expensive. My good friend Dave Wright was doing all of the chops/heavy metalwork there, but he is now over at Super rides by Jordan in Escondido. Dave built the M80 '49 Chevy coupe while working at HR and Custom Stuff.
