As my final "Capstone" project, I have to make a plastic injection mold. Everybody else is doing little keychains and other trinkets. I want to do something practical and hot rod related. Anyone have any ideas? The plastic injection doesn't have a very big shot, so the part cant be too big. Thanks for the help. Justin
I need a glow-in-the-dark plastic Jesus with a magnetic mount for the dash of my car.... Some ***hole swiped the one that I had on there...
I had to make a mold before I could graduate tech school. I made a small 0-1 micrometer. I made an electrode from carbon and burned half of the mic into each half of the mold with a sinker EDM. turned out pretty well. You could do something like model car wheels and sub gate it so they come out clean with no runner to trim off.
That's what I was thinking, well the shift handle/nob thing. Didn't think of dash knobs, but that's a great idea.
I don't know what type of plastic you will have access too, but tailight lenses (say something odd like 62 Mercury) would be neat.
Ummm....... How about some 1/8 scale model hotrod parts that fit the old Monogram BIG scale model kits???
"I don't care if it rains or freezes, long as I got my plastic Jesus, sittin' on the dashboard of my car. Come them colors pink and pleasant, glows in the dark 'cuz he's iridescent, take him with you, when you travel far." Get yourself the Sweet Madonna, dressed in rhinestones settin' on a pedistal, of abilone shell. Goin' ninety, I aint scaredy, cuz I got the Virgin Mary ***urin me, I ain't goin' to hell. " ...ummm... I second the glow in the dark plastic Jesus.

How big of press are you running the molds in.That will determine the size of part you can accomplish.Lenses u***ually have alot of facceting wich is not easy to cut or edm. Also requires an A-1 or better finish to look right.
One of the guys in my cl*** made carb covers (so you didn't drop **** down the carb while tinkering or tuning)...another guy made plastic s****ers for applying body filler...another guy made a socket holder piece that holds 6 3/8" drive sockets, and that piece interlocks with another one so you can configure it as wide or narrow or long and short as you need it to fit your toolbox...I made a mold to make the monkeys for the old Monkeys in a Barrel kids game, because I'm ****ing weird like that...and they were pretty detailed monkeys...monkeys rule...
