Yeah I know, another thread about chopping a deuce highboy 5w but it's a great leap of faith to make that first cut. Anyone care to share their 3" or 3 1/2" chop pics? Does a 3.5" chop run me into anymore difficulties than the 3"? She's going into the bodyshop tomorrow and the chop is happening in a week, got 2 of the best metal men I know helping out so i gotta make up my mind pronto 3" or 3 1/2". I really still like the Milner chop after all these years...looks like more than 3" to me. Thanks in advance for your input and my apologies to those who've had to endure countless threads re deuce chops.
Looks like a pretty NICE 5W I myself, being old, overweight and too tall for a chopped coupe ... would NOT chop one but I do like the looks of a 3 inch cut. on someone else's coupe I do not see much, if any, more difficulty is chopping one 3 or 3.5 ... but then I am not a metalman.
I love chopped cars...................but I just couldn't bring myself to chop that car. I like non chopped 5 windows.
mine is 3" chop and i love it but i would never chop a srteel 32 in this day in age thats why i found a choped one for a hot rod
a 3" chop will look like all of the chopped fiberglass 5w's. A 3 1/2" chop will definitly look better. Like someone said cut it 1/2" more in the front. It just looks way better. So, your cut would then be 3" in the rear, 3 1/2" in the front. something about that extra 1/2" that you have to see to believe. BTW, I'm getting my 5w cut this next year and this is the chop I'm going for. It will be done by someone very familier to anyone who has been on the HAMB a few years. Film at 11:00 Frank
Buddy of mine ran a 2.5 in chop on his 5 window for 20 years and when he was doing a rebuild this last year he cut it another inch, said it was more of a mans chop than the 2.5 chop. More agressive!
Frank, Now your car will look like 80% of the other 5-Ws out there,(sound familiar) LOL. Larry Any way here is a 3" chop on mine and I cant see having less windshield to see out of .
Mine is only chopped 2" and it still looks good, but I agree with "Deuce Roadster"and the other guys, I wouldn't chop it. I have an extra roof for mine and I am just about to begin the "UNCHOP" Raising the roof project. Then I will have my nice stock body I have wanted for a while.
Actually IMO there is nothing like a 4" chop on a 5w. The reason I'm doing mine less is that I'm long from the waist up with short legs for my height. I've sat in about 30 chopped 5w's over the years agonizing on how much to chop mine. A 4" chop and i've got to just about sit on the floor to be able to sit upright. A 1/2" doesn't sound like much after you've done the research I've done a 1/4 " makes a difference. Frank
Absolutely Fab32, time for him to man up. Take a look at Swanders Bones built deuce and the pictures after he realized the error of his ways and gave it the right chop, changed the whole attitude of the car, and it's all about attitude! Just make the seat padding a little thinner, the top of your shoulder shouldn't be above the body anyway. Better save the pieces, you might want to restore it someday?
Your height, age & how far you drive will have alot more to do with how much to chop. Cool ain't always comfortable. I have a buddy who chopped his 4" in back, 4 1/2 in front. Looked killer but he's 6'3". Sold the car in less than a year. If it was mine (and it isn't), I' spend the chop money on something else. Like a Hemi.
No chop, as already stated.... Deuce with no chop = a steel Deuce.....Chop your Deuce and you will have a 5 window like all the others.... If I were going to chop it, pie chop, 3 1/2" in the front 3" in the back with the front 'A' pillars leaned back..... Nice Deuce body you have..... Merc caps on the rims?
My first 32 5W was chopped 4 1/2'. 'Looked good to me but anything from 2" to 5" is all good. The cartoon look of a Wedge chop on a 32 doesn't do it for me. 5W doors are short and inconvenient for ingress and egress even without chopping. Two door sedans and 3W's are easier for entry/exit. Inconvenience is the price for looking KOOL, hotrods aren't luxurymobiles. Bottom line Do what suits YOU!
i realy like this quote . this puts it in to prospective. how cool = how inconvenienced you want to be . my 32 5w is chopped 4 in the back and 4 1/2 in the front . its not the easies to see out if but it sure is cool to have the kid in the family sedan at the traffic light look at you with a smile.
I went with 3 1/2 if I were to do it again I would take another 1/2 out of the front to give it more rake and you gotta lean the posts back. check out the deuce site http://www.deuceslimited.com
Ignore these words,.... Motrin is cheap ! and so are electric blankets If your going to chop it,... get the most for your money, hacksaw blades aren't cheap anymore,..... make it count !, (Of course you won't be able to get a coke through the window at the drive in,... but hey !,... fries will fit, one at a time,... maybe a Hot Dog with nothing on it) Glad I could have been of help. "Don't be a poop, chop your coupe !"
What is this shit? I go away for a weekend and I come back to Deuce 5W Restorer's Society? This is the H.A.M.B. for god's sake!!!! Chop the hell out of it, so much so that you can you can barely see out of it, and then raise it 1/4". Okay, that's a bit extreme, but maybe I've made my point. Mine's 4 1/2", and I'm 6'2" / 200 lbs. and I fit fine. It's all about seat placement, there's really a lot of room in there if you plan ahead. If you really want to be comfortable, buy a new car. Just my $.02.
Hey Candy-Man, yep, merc caps... good eye. steves32- a 354 hemi 4spd is on the stand waiting to be squeezed in. Where I'm from there's so few deuces real or unreal @ I'm not worried about mistaken identity.
