The radio sucks most of the time. I am pretty open to lots of music, not much rap, not much country...but some....no damn show toons of course. Old country is the shit, I love old music, new stuff is too...well...new! Only good thing about Shania Twain is lookin at her and the fact that she had a '57 chevy in one of her music videos.
[ QUOTE ] I'm a country listener- wear a cowboy hat, boots & Wrangler jeans just about every day. Looks kinda funny though when I'm jammin' to some Iron Maiden...... [/ QUOTE ] When I was in the Marine Corps one of my roomates was a redneck from somewhere they date their sisters. He always listened to country, I always thought that ot was funny as hell to see him trying to slam dance in his boots, nut cutters, and a cowboy hat to pantera or the misfits. But I gotta admit this new country is kinda apealing in some ways. Still dont own any cd's. But if all that is on the radio is nascar, and if all my cd's are melted I might listen to country for a little while. Jonney
I'm always hearing people bash on country music. I used to be one of 'em, but where did all we listen to come from? 90% of it descended from country in some way. Rock music in it's earliest form was half country. The original punks were rockabillys, and anyone that listens to Social Distortion has their head up their ass if they can't hear Johnny Cash. Early rock n roll was derived from country, and as various influences from all over the world and over time morphed into different genres, metal, punk, alternative. You gotta know your roots. I'll admit modern country can be kinda lame, but there are still kick ass groups playing traditional music with a twist like BR5-49. Love country or hate country, anybody that is into traditional rods and customs should at least repspect it since rockabilly and country was/is such an integral part of the hot rod culture.
Butt, have you been "noodling" yet? I've got some BR549 and some Derailers and some classic country(Love John R Cash), not much into the "Pop Country" music. I wonder how many of these artists could sell if there weren't music videos for them to show off their wares? Hell all you have to do is look good, take the SNL show from a few weeks ago, obviously most of these people can't sing without some technology behind them. Farmall PS Gretchen Wilson does have the killer voice to go along with her trailer park look. I guess I'm saying she's not too shiny! Shania, too shiny.
I don't know what it is but Terri Clark turns my crank, I don't like country music but she looks like she can slap around a four-speed, drink beer and cuss.....m m good
REAL COUNTRY music is sittin' on the tailgate of the pickup at midnight sippin' shine from a mason jar while listening to a pack of coon hounds on a fresh scent! Damned city kids don't know shit! Nashville is the Hollywood of the east. Damned if I can figure out what's country or western about a city in the east. Or stars in cowboy hats and tight jeans from South Boston or Western Chicago with a phony southern drawl.

[/ QUOTE ] Damn Joe, you just wrote a country song. If you guys like the old country sound, try Hank Williams III. Sounds alot like his grandpa.
Go here... http://www.khyi.com/ Prepare to join in listening to Dallas only independant country/bluegrass/americana/newgrass/swing station.. AM is the best....I love these guys....couse im old too..
[ QUOTE ] i like almost all music... punk, hardcore, metal, new and old folk, grindcore, jazz, emo, screemo, garage (60's to modern), but there are two types of music i can't stand... hip hop and country. of course there are acceptions that make the rule (beasties, cypress hill, basehead, guru, hank jr. and sr., cash, hasil adkins, neko case ect.). most hip hop and country seem to cater to about a 10th graders mentality, but you can always find something good if you are open minded and know where to look. corprate radio is trash. there is so much good music still being created today, but you will only find about 1 percent of it being played on the corprate radio stations. for the good music in any genre, you have to look to the left side of your dial and find the college stations and pirate radio stations. that is where the real shit is! [/ QUOTE ] Hiphop sucks. If you hear a car roll up next to you playing it, you don't even have to look over to know their IQ is in the single digits. As in "uh, you want fries with that ?"
Hey 57joe...whatever, your forgetting about early blues influence as well. When people bash country it's generally modern country they're talking about. Classic country is a completely different style of music which anyone can tell if they listen close. That's the problem though, nobody listens close to music anymore, or to what's being said, they just use it to fill up that empty space in their head.
I like some counrty, mostly the Waylon outlaw stuff. At least its music, unlike rap. I can't see why we have the best stereo systems made today and people use them to play rap. I agree with one of our local DJs, "Rap is the Aids of music." Oh, and ya might want to take a bullet proof vest to that next Metal show!
I usd to hate country but like has been said its a gettin older thing , the more time goes by , the more homes/ women/jobs/money/Dogs? you lose, the more it makes sense, I still listen to Led Zep and Ozzy (at almost 50 YO), but the new country just plain rocks my boat now , makes me feel like i'm not the only one that got handed a shit sandwich years agn another note , being a disabled Vet,I pay attention to the fact that I'm not hearing a hell of a lot of patriotic stuff coming out of the rock/RB crews and I do a HELL of a lot out of the country artists. So most everything country makes more sense to me now instead of the steady complaining./threats I hear in current rock/RB?rap stuff, both seem to like Hotrods in their vids tho ,THATS a Good thing but hell i'm a old fart, what do i know. I spend more time listening to early to mid sixties beach/rock/surf stuff cd's now -It was a simpler time.
Nothin wrong with Country music...I'm partial to Bluegrass though. You should check out the Del McCoury Band...great stuff.

[/ QUOTE ] Man, you took the words right out of my mouth brother. Real country, alt country, classic country, roots music: all that is the real thing. It's this 'Toby Bubba Michael McGuire' music that gives country a bad name. I personally believe that old Hank woulda loved The Clash and Mr. Johnny Cash himself covered some NIN. I think that tells us who is who. This crop of manufactured country stars that has been with us the last few years are all fakes. They cross over to pop the first chance they get. Besides, anything Top 40 on anyone's list can probably suck a golf ball through a garden hose.
blue grass was big in the mid to later 70's here , I played BG/Blues harp and ran light /sound for a BG band back then, a face smack on a 57 chevy windsheild finished that little career, LOL
the new outlaw formula: say "hell yeah" a bunch of times in your songs- references to original Outlaws helps too- and if you really want to wow the crowd wear a shirt that says Cash on it. a few years ago, i'd have said country sucks across the boards. nowadays, i like some country music. In fact I think that the Red Headed Stranger might be one of the best american albums. The only new stuff I like is Allison Krauss and Union Station. The rest of it is torture to listen to.

[/ QUOTE ] Notice I only said "half country", I didn't forget the blues influence, I just didn't mention it. Unfortunately on account of shit modern country artists, it gives the whole genre a bad name to people who don't know the difference between Hank Williams and Toby Keith. Your average teenage punk rocker doesn't know the difference.
i know, yeah, the corporate nashville sucks,i think all the songs are written by the same songwriters, its like they have a formula or something, part a) talk about your high school days part b) that first kiss from bobby joe part c) riding around with your buddies in a pick up truck etc... but i was just digging that song about cheating by gretchin,it sounds like and old loretta lyn or tammy wynette song or something and man, i love that sara evans ,she is so HOT. there is a kick ass radio show on sunday mornings here on the left side of the dial, real old country stuff like form the 50's,by guys ive never heard of.
