Hello folks. Daryl here, former owner of the Gate Job Comet. Thanks to all for their support. I`ve been dealing with Barrett Jackson and Mr. Diller, the last week and a half. I just recieved an envelope from Barrett Jackson yesterday. Things are working out in my favor now. I`ll tell about my "experience" in Scottsdale, little later on. Probably best when this is all completed. 1 more hurdle to go. Thanks to all my friends who supported me in this. And alot of you I have yet to meet, hopefully somewhere down the road. I have talked to Greg Mosely, told him the car is still not done. I will be helping out on the details for him. I do have a "few" photos of the Gate Job. I do sell them also. I have over 100 of the Gate Job being built by Pete in his garage. Daryl
Sorry, no website. Just around 100 negatives of the Gate Job, while Pete was building it in his garage. Daryl
Dayrl, Thanks, and keep up the good work! I am a huge fan of the 64-67 Comets, and their history! Eric
"Of the five cars built, Pete Gates Gate Job received the most colorful paint scheme. The car defeated such racers as Arnie The Farmer Beswick, Dyno Don Nicholson, Eddie Schartman, Roger Lindamood, Dickie Harrell, Jungle Jim Liberman, Gas Rhonda and many more". This car did NOT always beat Arnie the Farmer Beswicks Tameless Tiger......and old race records prove that. Beautiful car though
i back up magnante 100 percent.....hes a good pal o mine.....if one dude 99.9 percent of the time knows his shit its steve.....unreal what his brain holds onto for fx and all around car knowledge....
Thanks 427SOHC. Axle, No one said the Gate Job beat Arnie all the time. Pete did beat Arnie some . Arnie beat Pete. Arnie Beswick told me this him self. Thats just the way it was. I`ve got Drag News, Drag Worlds, National Dragsters, and all the magazines here that tell me the facts. I will be able to inform all more here soon, about my "experience" in Scottsdale. I did recieve payment from Barrett Jackson last Friday. In my name also. I talked to Steve Magnanti twice in Scottsdale. Was very impressed with him. Also was very impresed on his article on Speed. He knew his stuff.Told him the whole story, on how a buddy of mine moved next door out in the country, where the Gate Job body was and then sold it to me. I also told Steve Magnanti about all the documentation I collected over the 17 years. My question for Steve Magnanti is, why go the Ted Diller route on stage ? Was he told to tell it this way ? Jody, he mentioned he knew you. Told him I knew you from the funnycar board. Ask him for me Jody. I sure woud like to know. Seemed like there was somethin goin on, with Diller this, and Diller that. Was like getting kicked in the teeth, groin, shins, all at the same time. Daryl
I sell my pics for $10.00 each. Printed right off the original negatives. I have more also, Golden Commandos 65 car-then as Mission Impossible, Bruce Larson, Dyno, Fast Eddie, Larry Reyes, Steve McKesson`s Competion Plus 67 Mustang, and more. Can reach me here. Daryl gatejob66@yahoo.com
Daryl I'll see what I can find out and let you know. I was watching when the car went across the block and was also confused why you weren't mentioned. I'll be in touch.
Big question is, where's Pete today? Dead? Alive? I built his last FC for him at Logghe's. He never paid for it! As the old saying goes, some people just need killin! I'd love to get my hands around his throat.
hi Jay,Daryl Huffman who sold car talked to Pete once.Tryed to get him to go to Barrett Jackson,no luck.Just Maybe there are reasons, larry. Will have Daryl reply.
Bombshell! Word has it he's making floor mats in GA. (I doubt seriously doubt it.) He should be making license plates! I could/should tell a few stories sometime. Might knock a few "heros" down several pegs. Everywhere in life you meet some heros as well as a few zeros. Sadly, our beloved sport is no different, with the exception that the ratio of heros is far ahead of the zeros.
While still in high school around say 1977 I was part of a co-op shop in an old theatre in eastern Ohio that at the time had a flop top Comet body up against a wall. Some great times in that place but the memory of who owned the Comet body escapes me and all my pictures from that time frame were lost in a garage fire a few years later. Leetonia,OH is close enough to make me wonder if this could have been that body and I would love to see a picture of it in its as found condition. Jeff Lynn
Lynn, The body you saw was the 1967 Comet, called Stripteaser. Originally owned by Bob Thomas, out of Georgia. Later sold to Jerry Caminito, and became Holeshot. It floated around Ohio for a few years, I always kept missin it. It is now in Michigan. daryl
Daryl,Thanks for that,I've always wondered what happened to that. Is it being restored or has it been?
