Does anyone have any experience with this ******? It says 375 THM on the tailshaft and everything I've read says it's a light duty 400 with a 350 tailshaft and came in 1972-1976 vehicles. It could have come with the same rear end that's in it which the guy thought was from a late 70's Monte Carlo. It came in my 41 Chevy and I will most likely replace it with a 700 R4...BUT....I can't see the casting numbers on my engine so don't know what engine I've got. I read somewhere this could be one of those freaky BOP ******s that won't bolt to a Chevy 350 (which I was told was the engine in the car) so don't know if I've got a Chevy 350 or BOP 350 engine that may not accept a Chevy 700R4. Anybody had any experience or know more about these? I tried a couple ****** vendors from my magazines and no one lists these. Thanks!
the 375 is very similar to a 400. They where found in Chevrolet wagons and some Impalas. The output shaft is the same size as a 350. If you want to make it a short shaft 400 during the rebuild just drop in a short 400 shaft and start stacking . You will need a 400 extension housing too. You don't know if you engine is a Chevrolet , Pontiac , Buick, or Oldsmoble?
No, I can't see the casting numbers, not a lot of space in the engine compartment. I'm working on getting the numbers, somehow, someway! I am preferring to use a 700R4 so I guess the casting numbers will be more important than what the ****** is. Just didn't know if it was one of the B-O-P ******s so hoped someone else had seen or used one and could say for sure it's a Chevy ****** not a B-O-P.
Unfortunately the only pic I'd get would be from the top...the Chevys look just like the B-O-Ps..it's mostly the bellhousing that's differerent...Hey that's a thought does anyone know how to tell the difference in the bellhousings?
NO, they don't all 'look like the BOP's"........there are substantial unique characteristics to the various GM engines, even though several share the same belhousing bolt pattern..........post a pic. Ray
