i've always had black cars. nothing wrong with a straight black paint-job. easy to co-ordinate the accessories. I'm wondering though, can you hang "flake" in the paint? would it even be worth the effort? I've seen tons-'o flake jobs in green/blue/red/ etc. I would be willing to spend some actual money on this paint-job, it'll probably be my last. will it show enough/ look good enough to be worth the effort/cost?
not sure if this is what u had in mind ... at a guess they sprayed flake in a clear coat over a black base? cheers, Sam
Yes, a black metallic can look like a very, very dark grey depending on the light. It's a good color but it's not pure black. Try doing a google search on the word 'diamondschwarz', it was the black metallic paint used on BMWs in the 1980s and early 1990s. edit: this isn't really a metalflake, I guess - it's a metallic.
House of Kolor has a sweetlookin' black flake. It doesn't look grey at all. I don't remember the numbers, but it wouldn't be hard to google it, I'm sure. I paint a lot of bikes and I've painted 3 or 4 with it in the past year or so. The Anglia that samuelj posted above has a rainbow flake suspended in the clear. It doesn't look black at all when done like that, but the HOK stuff looks black!
I had a 1968 Corvette coupe that was black with a small blue metallic in it. It looked good, it wasn't heavy. You only saw the blue up close, the car always looked black. Not like the big metal flake, but it was nice. Was like that when I bought it. ^
My wife's daily is painted black metalic from the factory. I think it looks like **** from anything over 4 feet away. It actually gives the car a dull/dirty appearance. ...no depth.
The black doesnt reflect color. We sprayed black base then the black flake and it just looked like textured black.... The new Dodge charcoal has a very heavy metallic that might give you what your looking for. I just finished this gold trailer.
MY OT Chevy truck came with a factory black metallic. (Solid black was not available that year.) It almost never looked black. Maybe at night. Looked a dark gray. I always hated it and finally painted the truck real black.
Black and pink, I don't know about the heavy black flake I have a christm*** ornamant that color. Would you possibly accent it with another color or keep the flake subtle?
We had a late model chevy truck with factory metallic black. Generally black metallic just makes the vehicle look like a dirty black vehicle in my opinion. However there is a very nice new factory color that may fit the bill. Go look at a brand spankin new 2010 Taurus with the new black metallic from Ford. Pretty good stuff and easy to match if required.
my 1989 GTU was a sparkliling black..everyone tells me it i not a true black metalflake...but it sure looks black, and has nice gold looking flake,,,,,,,,
Just my opinion, black should be left as black for overall car, doing panels in black flake seems eye pleasing or maybe a shifter ball, guess I'm sticking to traditional basics.
I am pretty sure that is exactly the same 2010 Taurus paint I was speaking of. Had one for a rental. Looks better in person that the pictures show, though you did a nice job capturing the flake in the photos. I thought it had a nice deep rich look. The picture of the front of the Ford car is how it looks in person, but you can see a slight multi color flop to the flake if you look closely.
I think we're getting metal flake and metallic paint mixed up. Don't think there's any factory colors that have metal flake.
I'll have to post the pics of the front yard. Pink Flamingos, Check! i think straight black is the way i'm gonna go. i did some surfing, found some pics. everything with flake or mettalic did look dusty/muddy. don't think it'll look as good as cl***ic black. thanks for the opinions guys!
If you want a metallic late model Honda / Acura is black metalic also the black on Lexus 05 or 06 ES330 Black Diamond edition is a metallic too.
Lil Roth flake...Greasy Black...i sell it and i have shot it....its BLACK!! and i shot it over black...it only reflects in certain light especially at night with street lights it looks best...hard to describe but looks like a fish rolling underwater? its cool...call me if you need help vintage customs...727-742-0198 Chad
Friend of mine did his car straight black and then put mirra flake over it in the clear, looked nice.
