I did not need the bottom so I asked for it to be cut at the belt line before it was sent. This is what it looked like when I got it.
I began by removing the damage at the belt line, relieving the stress on the wrinkles in the lower left hand portion of the window. No alhtough it appears that way the dents didn't pop out. I slowly worked on the being careful not to strike directly on the crease. As you can see the hard crease on the inner reveal remains.
The remaining crease was removed by a combination of slapper and dolly and pressing on the crease with two pieces of metal and a couple large c-clamps. Sorry did not take a picture of that procedure.
another piece of "scrap" saved to live another day in the glorious manner in which henry intended. nice work, i'm feeling wordy this evening.
Next up was the big tear in the upper corner of the window. I started by removing the drip rail and the section of the door post.
The inside of the window has a small brace (for lasck of a better term) in the corner. This had been torn loose and I used kind of an unorthadox method of to return it to it's original location. Good thing I have lot's of vice grips.
The previous setup pulled it in place so I could tack it but it was not flat. I then used this setup to get it to lay down like it was originally designed.
From here I used small square stcok and worked my way up the post straightning the bow that had been created by the impact to the car.
I had a crack in the upper drip rail area that I had to tack as it was causing the stress on the lower panel. Once done I straightened the bent areas below and matched the outside body line. I then welded the crack with oxy aceteline so that I had a soft weld to work with. I t may appear so but It still did not line up correctly in the inside oof the panels but some minor hammer and dolly work and things began to come around.
Here it is sitting next to the the undamaged panel from the other side. Ready to be cut down, soon to become the rear quarter windows of my coupe. Just need some Qtr Panels!!
Looks like you have done a nice job.But isn't it sad that we have to resort to repairing panels in this condition because of the scarcity of usable bodies....(rhetorical question)..? I can remember throwing stuff out in this condition, but not anymore.
Coverkid I realize it's larger, with alot of work it can be made into a 5 window window. Check the thread by oz40 where ne built one of these.
Nice work! If you posted photos of your Coupe I missed them, I always enjoy posts like this. Looked at an overpriced '32 5Window last week, so reading about others projects is a great education.
Great Job Mike, I'm glad someone got some use out of my crap. Small world, I got those panels from Couverkid about 7 yrs ago. Very nice work Kelly
