I'm 33 years old starting my first street rod build. I have a 38' chevy 2dr sedan. Started in December with chopping it 4". Have it mostly fitted and welded up. Now shaving the drip rails. Next I'm gonna start on the frontend. Going with MII set-up, I'm just not sure if I'm going with stock height spindles or 2" drop. Does anyone have any info or recommendations on what height spindle to go with? Thanks for taking the time to read this and I look forward to any help with this. -Paul
I'd go with the 2" dropped spindles. I've got a '39 Chevy coupe that I built 20 years ago (still not done). It's got a Nova front suspension and a Morrison Ladder bar/coil spring rear set-up. It sits low (almost too low). I'm currenly building a '38 Chevy coupe and I'm using a Mustang II IFS with 2" dropped spindles and a Morrison 4-bar rear with air bags all around. I really like the way it sits. With a 4" chop your sedan will scream "LOWER ME!!" It'll look awsome.
Welcome from West Virginia I did a 38 sedan awhile back and channeled the body 4 inches so the stock Ms 2 spindles worked fine otherwise I'd use 2 inch drops I'll bet that chop was a hellof an undertaking
It was a hellof an undertaking. All in all it went good. I thought I had it pretty well palnned out, but I sure learned alot along the way...the next one should go alot better (and faster).
Welcome Wideglide, (maybe weldguy would be more fitting). That's quite the undertaking for the first chop, good job man! Enjoy the Hamb and keep on cuttin!
Welcome from Kansas. Speedway Motors has a 2"drop crossmember that works well, saving money on spindles.
Thanks for the advice on the 2" drop crossmember...But I just ordered a complete MII front end with crossmember and 2" drop spindles. Says 2-4 weeks delivery, we will see what happens.
