Back in the 80's there was a painter that did some unbelievable graphics on car, I believe his name was Scott Sullivan. I think he was from Ohio. He was the go to guy for great graphics in the mid- states. They featured him in Hot Rod magazine several times. Does anyone know what happened to him?

Here is some pics of my T-Bucket that I traded for 2 years ago, I have been trying to find the painter, as nobody in Indy seems to know who he is on the cowl of the car it is signed SeVick. the graphics seem to be from around 1976 is my guess. Maybe somebody here will know something. Thanks.

I guess you saw the 2- tone 67 Camaro that he did the dinosaur bones on also. Man that car blew my mind. I knew the kid that owned it, and I got to check it out up close several times. Awesome work.

No need to talk about Scott Sullivan in the past tense, he is still at it. The latest Hot Rod (March 2010) has a '31 Ford that Scott did all the paint and bodywork on.

Scott's a good guy. I was born and raised near Dayton Ohio up until about 5 years ago and Scott is a local legend there also. He always has something cool he is working on, be it cars or bikes or whatever.

The dinosaur work on that Camaro is unbelieveable. Scott Sullivan is the man when it comes to that stuff.
I always liked the way he signed his work too, I always found myself looking for the tiny letters somewhere.
His "Cheese Whiz" '55 was at Columbus this year, and after all these years, it still looks fresh as ever. I don't mean condition-wise (but it still looks GREAT), but I mean it's still "in style", not outdated at all. Total classic.

As a very young kid, Scott stuff would always grab me, even before seeing it in mags, I remember it most at the Supernationals in Canfield ohio at the Fairgrounds. It was always so tight and served a purpose to the vehicle. He was someone I have always looked up to as an artist. I enjoy seeing the old stuff to this day.

Not a fan of graphics on a car for some reason.....but I'd love to have an Iron Maiden cover on my bike tank.

carter did (and still does) awesome work...going old school so to speak....nate quick , alton guillispe(sp) .....scott sullivan was a great influence as well.....from a graphics and from a stance builder:D i'd also throw pete santini in there as well....

  23. I dug his stuff thru HOT ROD back in the day. Street Machine of the year '79 (?)- the Nova. Wow. I lived out in a desert town then and that copy of HOT ROD was the best thing in town. Then he did the '55. Then the purple Camaro. All still inspire.

I'm not sure if this fits but i'll post it here just in case, from this week's art show. I enjoyed doing the graphic element on this '26 Chevy ute.
There's something about the graphics on those S.S cars- the way he had intricate details but always kept the graphic at the service of the car's lines- never had them dominate the car.

  26. Great thread!!!!!
There were so many great graphics people that I admired it would be hard to list them but here goes.Wish I had some examples to post.

Art Himsl would be right up there near the top.His work on his brother Mickey's tub and the C-cab back in the early 70's were unbelieveable.Got to meet him several years ago in Detroit and he is a great person to talk with.

Nat Quick was another who did some incredible graphics.Check out his site on the Pinhead Lounge to see some of his great fine art paintings of WWII aircraft.Never met in person but have corresponded with him for awhile and he is a great person as well.

Glen Weisgerber is another legend when it comes to race car graphics.Glen is a guy who does it all:pinstriping, airbrush, lettering;you name it and Glen does it.Known him for many years when we met at an art school in Boston.

There are a couple whose full names I don't know:eek:ne is "Greg" of Akron Ohio who used to do wild murals and such on vans in the 70's.There was a thread about him awhile back and I believe he is no longer with us.

Another was a muralist from Connecticut who used to work with Woody's Body Shop and did a lot of incredible motorcycles.Maybe someone remembers him(I think his first name was Bill).

There was another guy from Melrose Massachusetts that was also into vans, his name was Dutch sounding.Damn! I wish this memory worked better!!

Anyway these are a few of many that piled their trade back then.I always wished I could airbrush like they did but alas it was not to be.To those I salute!!!!!

John Pugh did alot of top fuel and funny cars. He is in Co. designing bike paint scemes & does art on the side. He told me once he wanted to be remembered as an artist and not a beer can painter. He painted my bug when he shared a shop with George Gray another great painter

I have to say , Kenny Youngblood. Not only have we been friends since high school, but he was a big influence in my career. He showed me how to do airbrush chrome grilles and head lights on the race cars I would letter, not to mention all the good advice in design and style .

Every time Scott posts on here some guys with no respect start beating on him about his grammar or post structure. They're too ignorant to realize who he is and what he's done. I don't blame him for not posting on here much.

When I was a kid in the early 80s his cars were my favorites. I wore those old Hot Rod magazine issues out.
