Not sure if this has been posted before. Iowa motor vehicle code 321.37 states that cars 1948 and older do not need to run a front license plate but you must have the front plate in the vehicle with you when ever you are on a public road. I am not running the front plate but I keep the plate and a copy of this code in the car. You never can tell when you will get pulled over for no front plate by a cop doesn't know about this code. http://www.legis.state.ia.us/IACODE/1999/321/37.html IOWA MOTOR VEHICLE CODE 321.37 Display of plates. Registration plates issued for a motor vehicle other than a motorcycle, motorized bicycle or a truck tractor shall be attached to the motor vehicle, one in the front and the other in the rear. The registration plate issued for a truck tractor shall be attached to the front of the truck tractor. The special plate issued to a dealer shall be attached on the rear of the vehicle when operated on the highways of this state. Registration plates issued for a motor vehicle which is model year 1948 or older, and reconstructed or specially constructed vehicles built to resemble a model year 1948 vehicle or older, other than a truck registered for more than five tons, motorcycle, or truck tractor, may display one registration plate on the rear of the vehicle if the other registration plate issued to the vehicle is carried in the vehicle at all times when the vehicle is operated on a public highway. Hi 36, I to cary a copy of the law, and the plate. so.. when i do get pulled over, do I show the officer the copy of the law? or just take the ticket, and plead not guilty, and show it to the judge? if you show it to the officer he'l write you for some thing else! (no fenders, horn, cracked windsield altered tail lites , smouth tires, over center line , )they don't like being told the law ect.
Never! Guilty or innocent, the accused will ALWAYS pay court costs, as a minimum. Show the cop the law and avoid the ***pain.

I hear you loud and clear.. tint'd gl***, crazy tail lites,ect. all you have to have is 2-3 beers in you, and off to jail.. just any reason to stop you. however, i have moon tank on the front, and there isn't much room in front of a model A and the LAW says I don't have to run a front plate. how many officers know the laws?
i agree just put the front plate on , they gave you one when you bought your plates. the hot rod gods wont look down on you if you have a front plate. why give the local constables a reason to pull you over, there are probably plenty other things on your car they can screw with you about. why wave a red flag in front of you to get his attention
never have run a plate in the front on any of may hot rods and i now people that no plate on their new mustang and camaros
I've been to traffic court in Illinois pleading not guilty following a traffic stop...judge dismissed the case and I didn't pay a dime, just walked out.
Me too. No front plate is an 'excuse' to stop if there isn't something else obvious, so they don't get accused of 'profiling'. I run them.
I keep my front plate under my seat along with a "broken" mounting bracket. I've been stopped & asked about it, but they don't h***le me as they see the bracket is actually broken.
Iowa highway patrol ****s gave my some 2 tickets now for no front plates on his 2008 Mustang Bullitt. Ford does not make a front plate bracket for that car! so we just used self tapping screws and screwed it to the front bumper plastic. I won't run a front plate on my 1939 Ford, but will carry it in the car along with a copy of the law that says I don't have to. will see what happens. Iowa has lots of stop lite cameras and makes Iowa lots of money. thus the need for front plates.
I have written about this before but here in WA you don't need to run front license with restored (YOM) plates. A lot of officers don't know that so we carry a copy of the MV code with us.
