I will post some later this evening - I gotta say that Bills Speed Shop was pretty amazing..............
I had hoped for more 4 lane roads for more video coverage of the cruise.
Oh well - I guess the segment will be about 5 minutes.....
but at least we got some good footage.........
thanks again for all that showed up and just contact me in a few months about getting DVD of the stuff we shot.

I can't believe I was not able to make it this year again. I was really looking forward doing the cruise this year, even my car was ready and weather was great, but everything just piled up for the Sunday and I couldn't go. Feel so bummed...

    Next year...

Super bowl sunday is a national holiday for the football faithful. But in the Chicago area there is a growing group that seem to be creating their own holiday.

The Polar Bear Cruise is such an event. The Bare Bones Car Club get thier rides out every
February and take them on a cruise that lasts about half the day. Since most Super Bowl parties don't begin until late afternoon, this is a perfect chance for
the true hot rodders to get out the cars in the morning and be done just in time for the kick off.

This year saw the continual growth that makes this event one of the must attend cruises in the Chicago area. Even people that did not have their cars out on Sunday
still came out to mingle and encourage all those that did bring out the rolling metal. Initially the Bare Bones club did this on their own with very little
participation from any other car clubs or individuals. This year grew about 8-10 cars. Next year there is confidence that the car count will reach 50! Imagine
heading to the grocery store on a chilly Sunday morning to get the cheeze whiz you forgot for Uncle Lester (he has to have it for the halftime show), and here is a
parade of hot rods, trucks, cruisers, and customs rolling your way. Well that is exactly what people got to see Sunday morn.

It seemed that as people saw them
    cruising down the road
they would slow down and just stare in awe. It is one thing to see a line of cars like this in the spring time, but in the dead of winter people really do stop
and stare.....and smile. As the faithful in the church of hot rodding passed a mega church the police that were there to direct traffic just smiled as they watched
the Bare Bones crew go by.

This is what it is all about. Driving the cars. Enjoying them! And bringing joy to so many other people as well. Anyone that is remotely into cars is going to
appreciate the efforts that these drivers take to get the cars out in the middle of winter. For that we should all thank the Bare Bones Car Club for organizing
    such a cool event.

There are many out there who don't quite "get it" and the club understands that. One of the members relayed a story about an older gentleman telling them they
were crazy for driving their cars in the salt. "Don't you realize that salt is going to eat your frame?" The response - "By the time that salt gets through the
frame we are gonna be dead!" The salt-o-phobe seemed very upset and mumbled something as he stumbled away, but there is some validity to this statement.
Most members know they should not just let the salt sit there and eat away at the frame - that is why they go wash their cars after the cruise! Wow - who came up
with that brilliant idea!!! Seems some people think the car washes only work in summer time.

Overall a great time was had by all that chose to come out and participate or meet at one of the pit stops. Bills Speed Shop and One Shot Kustoms were the
featured shops that were along the tour this year. Both places were really hospitable to letting all these strangers crash their place on an off day. Bills
Speed Shop even made a little money by cutting off a one piece back bumper off of a '55 Chevy! One Shot Kustoms marked the end of the cruise and each person
that made the entire trip received a Polar Bear Cruise patch to apply to the favorite work jacket.

This cruise will take place again next year. Be sure to get your
stuff together so your can get out there and cruise with the rest of the hard core rodders that take that cold Windy City weather all in stride and you just may
be able to start your own collection of Polar Bear Cruise patches.
