Good Morning, I am fairly new to the forum and was hoping someone can help me with some questions. I am actively searching for a 61-67 Econo. pick up. I am close on a couple different trucks but have some questions. Are all early vins supposed to be located inside the left door jamb above the limiting strap? Why do some have dash pads and others don't? Is this year specific? Any help with these question's or advice where I can find this info. would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Have a great day. Don
Vin in the back of the Motor compartment on the backside behind the valve cover... Dash pads and glove box doors are options, as are delux heaters, radios....Automatics, or 4 speeds on the columns...13" 5 lug wheels were stock..
Vin plate is usually on the door jamb, some have it on the sill right in front of you, even with the seat. The Stamped vin behind the motor is only visible with the doghouse removed. I've only seen glove boxes and dash pads on the later 65-67's
They never came with a 300. 65-67s came with either aa 170, or a 240. The 240 had throttle cable and different linkages, bigger drive shaft, rear end, bigger radiator, etc. If you want to swap in a 300 or v8, you need a LOT of parts from a 240 truck. I think dash pads were only options in '67. '67 was also the first year for a dual master cylinder. Most other parts interchange year to year. The crossmember is totally different from 61-64 and 65-67. You can get a lot of good info from 2 very active Yahoo groups: OldEconolines and EconosRUs.
Thanks for the comments everyone. I am trying to buy a 64 pick up but there is not a vin on the door jamb. I have a problem with that. All others I have seen have a vin plate there. Makes me wonder... Don
I have the owner of the 66 trying to find a vin plate anywhere. So far he has'nt found any. The truck is too far for me to inspect personally. Of all the econolines I've looked at, this is the only truck that does not have a v.i.n. in the left door jamb.
I bought a 64. It has the vin on the left door by the latch and not by the hinge area where many are.
Finally got me truck home and started the resto. You are correct. That is where my v.i.n. plate is also.
Okay, maybe you can help with info for a 62. I bought one, drove it around with the 6 that someone had changed out. I do not believe it was the original engine. The 6 threw a rod and I figured okay, time to do a v8 swap. Tossed the six that was in it without ever "ID"ing it. It used the stock radiator, dual sheet metal motor mounts and was mated to a c4. Nothing else looked modified except trans mount and shortened drive shaft. It fit the engine bay well. Was it most likely a 240? I need help as I am going to bail on the v8 thing and build a six that just fits. I wanna drive it! Awaiting comments from the experts......
what shape is the bell housing for the engine? Round shape or does it have a flat shape at top about 5 inches wide? 240 300 cid engine used small block V8 pattern One bell would be a V8 style pattern, other pattern would be a round early inline 6 bell housing pattern for the 170 - 200 cid engines
Don't have it anymore, but it was not a SBF v8 style. I had to change it to a V8 housing when I had it rebuilt and now plan on getting another bell housing for the 6 swap. I am really thinking it was 170-200. Are 170's and 200's both physically the same size? And do they both use to factory 2 piece sheet metal motor mounts? Thanks for the info. Bryan
