whats a 392 hemi thats complete air cleaner to pan with automatic trans out of a 57 dodge worth? Its a 325 hp. It turns freely, but I know nothing else about it.
Ive got one too but, I think it is locked up it cam out of a 1952 dodge. I was told parts are hard to come by and people will pay up to 500-800 dollars for none running motor but a running motor is 1000 to 2500 depends of shape of motor
This might help you... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3867297#post3867297 Also, there was not a Dodge Hemi that was a 392. Is it a Chrysler truck Hemi in a DODGE? Numbers would help and so would pictures.
Something you should know. Every motor with spark plugs passing through the Valve covers is a 392 until you get it apart and find out other wise. There is a lot of good info on how to identify them all. Take the time to learn it before you spend your $$$$. The Wizzard
I haven't seen it. The guy said 325. all I could find on google was 325 hp 392. What sizes were in 57 dodges?
Sounds like a 325 Dodge to me, but here are all the numbers you need to know (well, most all, never can say all with hemis): http://www.hothemiheads.com/hemi_info/hemi_engine_id.html If it is a 325, I would say $800-1200 for one in good complete shape with nice valve covers. But I would only mess with it if it was in good shape and complete and would start at $4-500 and try to get it cheap.
If it is a 325 CI hemi its a 1957 Dodge hemi engine. The 392 was a chrysler engine. If its a true 325 hemi its a great find. I would give my left arm for an original one of those - not as common as the chrysler engines yet still packs a great punch!!!
There's one advertised as a 395 hemi with 2x4's, complete for $8800.00 here in Corpus Christi. It's posted in a local rag called the adsack. He has wheels and tires I'd love to have, big and littles for $2000 but I'm broke as usual. How's that?
ok then it is a 325. he wants a grand for it and doesn't know if it will run. I'm not really after one, but I do pick up stuff when I think its worth it. I just don't know anything about mopar stuff.
Put a battery and some fuel in it and give it a kick. See what happens. If nothing else the parts are propably worth a grand.
If he'll let you, pull the plugs and valve covers and have a look around. If you don't see anything scary and you can turn it over then it would probably be a reasonable deal. Do a search HERE (you're addicted, remember) and I think you'll find you're WRONG! Don't waste people's time and stop spamming.
Dont sound bad IF it looks good, turns over good, been under cover, and doesnt have anything suspicious about it
its on a pallet in his garage. but i guess its not really a great deal. don't get me wrong It sounds like a fair deal, but not one to grab just cause its there.
Offer him $500 for it and see what happens. If nothing, pass it to somebody else here on the HAMB, it go like candy to kids....guaranteeeed!!
I don't think you should rule it out as not a good deal. Just learn more about it. Personally, if I had the cash, and it's not frozen I would consider it. They're good motors and you can get lots of parts for them.
what kind of power do they have stock? also what kind of money would i have in a complete rebuild kit figuring i do need pistons. but all the internals are useable. back to stock spec, not hot rodded.
...or you could go to Scooters HemiTech section..... The 57 325 was rated at 285 hp...one hp per inch is easy with a rebuild but proper rebuilds are not cheap. .
57 Dodge is a 325 cu inch ... maybe you misunderstood? or maybe it's not out of a 57 Dodge...? Lookie: http://www.classichemi.com/index1.shtml
True and that is a fantastic resource for more detailed info., but this link gets straight to the punch with pretty much any ID # you need to figure out what hemi it really is. That is why I suggested it. Pretty clear cut and concise.
I'm sure its a 325. I said that. I didn't find it on google when I looked so I thought maybe he read a hp rating on the valvecover and it might be a 392. but he said 325 and now i know it exists
