    Hello guys
I have a 1956 Buick with a rebuilt starter and cellanoid
    and she still won't start.
My thoughts are its either wiring or neutral safety switch. Any ideas before I tear her apart?

    Thanks...
    John

PS... there is power to everything else.

If it won't crank over, try using a remote starter switch that clips to the solenoid posts. That will let you know whether or not you're getting power to the solenoid.

You do know that the starter switch is in the accelerator pedal linkage on the carb? To start a 50's Buick turn the key on and to get it to crank press down on the gas pedal. If it still doesn't crank touch the 2 wires that go to the switch on the carb together and if it cranks the carb switch is your problem. If you can't find one you can subs***ute a push****on switch on the dash, just lengthen the wires from the carb switch to the new dash switch.

I was going to suggest multi meter and or momentary hot jump of
solenoid but you have more knowledge of this auto than I. Thanks for the
info. Learn something new every day.;)

  6. If you find the car starts after jumping the wires at the carburetor, then you might take the switch apart and check for burned contacts and or a stuck ball. I "rebuilt" the carb switch on my '55 years ago when it would not start. At least on mine, I was able to flip the copper contacts upside down to allow the switch to contact on a unburned surface, cleaned the rest of it and re***embled. Good to go.

When I was about 10 years old the neighbor across the alley from my parents house bought a 1940 something Buick coupe for his daughter to drive who was just getting her license. For 3 days I watched him push the car out from his garage and then push it back in. I finally walked across the alley and asked him what was wrong. He was sitting in the car and turned the key and said it won't start see. Since my uncle had a 53 Buick I knew about the gas pedal starter so I told him he had to push the gas pedal down for it to start. He did and it started. I could see he felt like an *** having a 10 year old show him how to start the car he just bought. He thanked me and put the car back into the garage under it's own power.
