Hey, need some help.. anyone out there know how a good reverse lock out can be safely installed on an B&M hydrostick 4 spd trans? How did they do it in the day, it is too easy, as is, to blow em up. I have a '57 Chevy nostalgia drag car and have grenaded reverse into potato salad... and can see myself doing it again if a better system is not employed. Any suggestions or was this always the problem with hydros? If there is no good fix I guess thats why these cool ******s went the way of the dodo's, and I better replace with a Muncie!! Thanks
What does your shifter look like. I have seen stuff as hillbilly as a lock hasp across the shifter gate. It p***ed tech at Mokan too. No it wasn't mine.
Right now there is just a bolt to stop the linkage from going in reverse from 1st gear but it slides around it way too easily. Specially when your bouncing around taking off from the line.
No pic of the car right now it is at the shop. The pattern is top to bottom... R 1 2 3 4 N straight down. I believe this is the stock original shifter??
I got the B&M Hydrostick trans fixed finally... only $800!! A Buddy deal at that. Front and rear planets and rear ring gear replaced. Parts are very hard to find I found out. The reverse gear shifter problem I had has been helped out with a longer bolt stop, so 1st gear to reverse isnt almost straight up but now has a much more 'up and over right' motion. Still not safe as it could be but seems to work OK. Great trans if you ever get a chance to drive one. Can be used in auto mode or manually shifted, awesome feeling! Each shift launches you forward rather fiercly but still smoothly with no hesitation, clutch slip, or driver error... (yeah I know...that never happens)
