this is probably a stupid question for most of you gearheads, but here goes. i've been driving a 64 falcon lately with a 260 in it without problems. this morning i noticed a strong gas smell. after my mile commute to work, and having the car hesitate under acceleration, i popped the hood to investigate. gas is coming out of a hole on top of the carb. shut it down and waited 1/2 hour. fired it back up, and after about 20 seconds, gas starts coming out of the hole again. not sure what that hole is for, whats the deal?

The hole is over the float bowl. Your needle and seat is sticking or your float has a hole in it, or trash in your fuel. Bottom line, your carb needs a kit or replacement.

yea just like merc 55 stated, you'll need to take it apart and clean that float so it swings freely and should probaly rebuild it

What is fun is when you have 3 2100's and they all want to leak at the same time
    Trash in your fuel block!!!!!!

Those are good carbs - under rated and easy to work on. Don't give up on it.

If it has the br*** float in it. Check it to make sure there is no gas inside it. Sometime they leak and fill up with gas. Just shake it and if you hear or feel anything moving in it then you need a new one.

And yes they are underrated carbs. easy to work on.

  8. As said, good carb, easy fix if it is just the float or needle & seat. just take the top off & fix,,,checked your filter lately ???

A step often overlooked, gravity sent some of that raw gas down to the oil pan, change the oil also.
