I have only one place on my manifold to put both a heater hose and a temp. sending unit. Can I put sending unit in one head and will it be accurate? Thanks for any suggestions......

Accurate enough. Many OEM's have the temp sender in one head on a two-bank engine.

It's a sbc. If I put the heater return line in the manifold then where do I put the temp. sending unit? No puns please......

  6. Chevy put it in the drivers side head for many years. It really dosn't matter which one, that's just how they did it. You could also use a br*** T in the intake and use that for the heater hose & the temp sender. Where does the other heater hose attatch ? Water pump ?

Remember that the heads get cooled last. If you install your sender in the head, it will read about 15 degrees hotter than it will if installed near the thermostat. G.M had a problem with that in the early 80s and subsiquintly changed their dash units to compensate. If you install it in the head, compensate. Normal operating temp will be about 205 if you are using a 180 thermostat.

On the sbc in my Buick I run the temp sender in the driver side head and the heater hose out of the p***enger side head. Makes for a cleaner install,

You didn't mention what year small block, the sbc I have in my coupe has the sending unit next to the t stat on top of the manifold right up front.

All of the heat in your motor is generated in the heads. That is why GM went to reverse rotation water pumps(ie serpentine belts). Roundy round racers don't even run any coolant through the block, only the heads.
