Have you guys ever done something really stupid, involving cars, such as selling them off, turing them down, ect?

I'll start. Before I really got into cars, I wnt to this middle school called canyon vista (canyon veiw) and of course it had a little canyon in back of the school which we would commonly visit to skip of for little science escapades, well one time I saw this car which the school was trying to give away for free... a 1950 Chevy 3100, complete, rusty but complete. Sadly they gave the car after a year and a half of trying. same car sold 4 weeks later for $4500 and is now a relitivly famous low rider. Go me!

    :(

P.S. Sorry, i said car when I should have said truck, my bad.

YES, it was a grand national,(i know off topic but a bad ass car) my step father bought, the guy he got it from had finished the car out but didn't have the money to get the motor out of the machine shop, my dad gave 3,000 for the car and rebuilt motor, told me if I gave him 2,000 I could have it all, never did it, regret it to this day! After that if I can afford it I get it.

With my 49, had every last part to make it a capable daliy driver/tire screamer, but i was too scared to dive in and work on it. I still miss the crap out of it. You always miss your first vehicle, especialy the powerful ones.

One time a guy cut me off, and gave me the finger while I was driving to work in my plow truck. At the next intersection, just before the light turned green, I dropped the plow and started pushing him thru the intersection. There was a cop in the nearby parking lot. I never made it to work that day, I ended up at the cop shop, arrested for Criminal Mischief. It never stuck, and all was good by the end of that month.

i could go on and on with the stupid,

    milk crate seat accidents,

getting pulled over in a car with no title, plate, insurance, vin, windsheild, lights, floor, etc etc and i forgot to bring my license with me!

starting a motor without the auto trans lines hooked up

starting a motor full of oil without the filter, in a freshly concreted apartment complex

getting a car running and being so excited to drive it and forgetting to tie the battery down. Battery's + mechanical fans do not mix

driving a motorcycle to work while expecting a blizzard that night. only crashed 3 times on the way home. only bent the rear brake pedal and mashed up the front brake fluid resivor.:D

trying to pull one jeep home with another jeep via tow strap, the said jeep being towed had a stripped out steering box, and i was steering.

Driving f134 flathead and a 3 speed down the highway at 65+ mph, only lasted a few mins before a rod went through the fender. then towing it home with a tow strap hooked to another jeep.

Putting a SBC in a jeep, rolling said jeep at a major intersection, then calling all my friends trying to get there as soon as possible to help me roll it back over before the cops came.

is this just car stories or any? i have some nice recent drunken accidents as well

Back in the 80's I sold a wicked 72 Dodge Demon to a kid for $1500.00 that later on he left it beside the road in Ohio. In Ohio they tow abandoned cars to a junk yard.
It was silver metalflake with a blue metaflake stripe really sharp. About a year later my step brother seen it in this junk yard and the junkyard owner said the title was found in glove box but was still notorized to the kid. When I got this call from my brother, I called the junk yard to see if I could get it back, it had a few parts removed. The owner of the junk yard said sure.....for $800.00 bucks. Well that pissed me off that he wanted that much since steel at crusher was low. Then he suggested I get him a Duplicate title and send it to him. I said sure......$900.00 bucks. If my stupidity hadn't got the best of me I could have gotten it back and made my money back and then some! This is one of many stupid things I have done.

In the late 70' I had a 65 Mustang I used for a daily driver.;) 6 banger 3 speed. We were sitting in the car wash lot next to a 4 lane highway pi$$ing around when I locked the tranny in first gear. My buddy said " Let's drop the drive shaft and bang on the linkage to see if we can get it out of 1st gear.";) Well that didn't work so we went to get my father in laws truck to tow it home. When we return we see red flashing lights and traffic backed up. Yep there was my Mustang blocking 2 lanes resting against the guard rail. The cop is trying to find out who the car belongs to when I walk up and say its mine. We push the car into the lot and he asks me "how in the hell did it get in the middle of the road ?"
I tell him that it was broke down and the brake must have let go while we were getting the truck to tow it with. ( was I glad he didn't see the drive shaft still laying on the ground). Did I mention the hand brake wasn't on. As the cop is getting ready to write me a ticket someone who must have been in a hurry and didn't want to wait in the traffic jam sped by on the berm. The cop throws my license back to me and yells " get it the hell out of here and get it fixed" as he took off after the speeder.

I still must be dumb, but what does reverse rotation have to do with that story? The cam or motor came from a boat?

  26. I have NEVER, EVER done or said anything stupid in my life.....until I posted on this thread.......damn!There goes my perfect record....

  27. I have done the stupidest things you could imagine.

-Bought a '91 Camaro total lemons car everything was fucked on it ended up trying to sell it for 2 years and would up selling it for a hell of a lot less than I paid for it.

-Doing donuts by a beach with my parents truck and almost got the truck impounded and my liscence pulled.

-Buying a '91 Camaro RS that needed more work than I could handle at that age.

-Took one of my old Camaros with shit brakes and a crazy cammed 350 and was going 180 when I saw a huge round about and couldn't brake in time and ended up hitting a curb hard.

-Backing my moms Mustang into one of my old Camaros

-Accidentally buying a stolen '92 Z28 and could not get rid of the fucker until someone else stole it off me.

-Backing my parents truck into a metal garbage bin and fucking it up.

-Leaving speed parts in a humid shed with no A/C only to find a shit ton of sruface rust on them later.

-Not masking a car properly when I wainted it.

-Accidentally dropped a t-top on one of my old Camaros.

-The list goes on and on and on.

1980, just got out of Army AIT, came home to southern Ohio on leave, had to report to Ft. Hood Texas in a couple of weeks. I needed to buy a car to get there with all my stuff. I had $1000 cash to spend on a car and gas for the trip. Looked at several, including a Petty Blue Hemi 4-speed Daytona for $500. Almost perfect except reverse was out of the trans. I could have fixed it but wasn't sure that I'd have enough cash left for gas, so I bought a VEGA instead!!

Wow... I do feel dumb posting to this! About 1998 a good friend of mine picked up a '33 five window coupe suffering from a bad case of the seventies uglies. After about six months of work off and on, we turned it into a very nice looking, nice riding, nice driving car that had a great mid sixties kinda patina to it. He drove the hell out of it for a bit, and then had the deal of a lifetime dropped in his lap for the deuce three window of his dreams. Problem? No garage space! Solution? Offer said '33 five window to my always broke ass- at exactly what he had in it. And, I might ad that because this car was bought ugly and out of date at the time (remember this was the height of billet), this figure was wayyyy cheap. Even offered to let me pay it off over forever.... What do I do? "Oh no, I've never been in debt in my life - if I can't afford it, I shouldn't buy it"! Call it practical stupidity! The main reason he was selling it to me was to "keep it in the family", and to protect what it was. Sure enough, the next owner (who bought it for almost double what it was offered to me for) within weeks replaced the Muncie 4 speed with a T.H.350, pulled out the millions of 1"pleats and replaced them with tweed, sanded off the lovingly worn black lacquer, and replaced with silver and "heartbeat"graphics. I've told this story on this board before, but it still feels good to smack my head against the desk top every now and then...
