Where do you buy that?? I like that idea, but i was also thinking i could maybe find something art deco-ish to mount permanently right behind the clock. Low profile. I have a vision and i actually made one today, but i dont feel it's clean enough to mount yet, so im looking for options!

Hi Ian. Have you looked at Bob Drake's mirrors yet? He always makes nice stuff. :)

I have no pics but i took a dash mounted mirror out of an old Stude. Late 40's or early 50's, not sure. Anyhow it was very trim, oval, art deco stem, and had the neatest rose colored gl*** in it. The reflections were rose color in the day and the headlights were never bright at night. Any time i get to a place with old iron I am on the lookout for another Stude mirror.

Check out a 54 Chev dash mounted mirror. I run one in my Hudson, and it is the perfect mirror for a chopped car. Makes a HUGE difference.

The actual mirror part unbolts from the base, so you could certainly change it out for an oval shaped one...

I took 40 lincoln zephyr mirror and flipped over and mounted it to my dash. It has a very cool shape to it. I just trimed of the tabs for visors.

Rick, i like a couple of these, i wish they made a swan type neck but from back to front, not only side to side!!! I would like to find something that mounts behind the clock and that would float right above it!! OVAL.

Well okay Capt. Berky, since you seem to be SUCH a handy guy, with this overly subtle yet highly customized Chevy................why not buy something that is:
    1. Art Deco from the get go
    2. Unusual and one of a kind
    3. Subtle yet highly customized like the Chevy

I'd find one of these art deco hand mirrors in the shape of my choice, remove the gl*** and narrow it or search for something my size *they came in a VARIETY of sizes*, put gl*** back in and then bend that handle back and shape it and fit it to be the ideal stem.

I think that if you couldn't cut and weld, then you could probably have a jeweler do it cheap enough...........and **** the mirrors are everywhere including thrift stores.

Go ahead guys, laugh it up. :p

Brandy's thinking along the same lines as me. Maybe your car needs something really fancy. Etched...maybe no frame with a "diamond-cut" edge by a jeweler. Did a little search and found these guys. Maybe something like this big oval one, but on a smaller scale.

You know..........looking at that round mirror with brush, that smaller one is the brush, I bet you could remove the bristles, replace the space with mirror and have a smaller version that you didn't have to narrow or shorten.

And they come in all sizes as well..........and generally already missing most of their bristles.

Bet that would look killer on the dash of my Poncho roadster............hmmmmmmmmm.

That swan neck oval head job of BobDrake's could do with the right twist at the swivel mount and be, well, tall. nvrmnd.

The first pic of the hand mirror/brush combo is certainly Art Deco but I believe the others are Art Nouveau.

The Drake mirrors for 35-36 oval Closed Car, 37-40 oval Closed Car, and 41-48 rectangular Closed Car could be turned upside down down but would not stand very tall from the dash rail.

Modifying any of the diecast base mirrors would be a problem as the diecast zinc alloy doesn't take well to change.

Studebaker used dash mounted mirrors from 47-52. Try studebakerparts.com. They have lots of interior/exterior parts. My 52 has one and it is the PERFECT shape and size
