The Ford restoration manual it looks like it says 71 1/2" from where the back edge of the hood meets the cowl. and the forward body mount hole is 1 1/8" ahead of that on top of the frame. That's a lumpy firewall to be picking a specific dimension to reference
Grimlock, I checked my Ford Model A restoration manual that I scored in the Henry Ford mueseum the measurent there shows 71 29/64". From the firewall to the front is 32 1/16". Hope this helps.
The problem with the official" Ford restortion book is it looks like some semi-techs took a tape measure out and just measured a bunch of different cars, (hence half a dozen different figures in 64ths sometimes for the wheel base which is "officially" supposed to be 103 1/2".) I converted the fractions on the frame hole dimension page (same page the 71 29/64" dimension comes from) and added up the figures together, since they have hole to hole dimensions on the drawing and got 72.509" from the front body mount hole to the rear mount hole whick is centered? above the rear spring mount/axle. the edge of the cowl (where the hood meets it?) is supposed to be 1.125" back from that front hole giving 71.384" for the cowl to rear axle dimension on the same page as the 71 29/64" or 71.453125" dimension. If you are going by a typical, anything within an 1/8 or 1/4" is fine build, this is all way to nitpicky anyway. And the '28-29 is different still on that body dimension.
I did a search to see if anybody had posted these, they are from the Model A Restoration Manual, I got it from the HFM too. I scanned a few that may be of interest to us. these will all be 800-900 px wide. Here are the '30's
